Magic % raises

Magic % raises
Hello all, I'm trying to figure out how & when magic % will increase, with specific regard to:

If magic level is above exp level, how many times magic must be used for 1% increase;

What things will make magic % increase, eg. casting a spell, using a magic weapon, casting special spells, making magic items, etc.;

If using a spell that a creature is weak against will make your magic % increase faster;

Any other info that might pertain to magic level % increases.

Thanks!
Hazarding a guess...purely from a semi characters perspective...NOT a mage's.

You need to use a certain amount of manapoints to increase magic skill by a percentage point (and that figure times 100 to gain a new level).

The amount of manapoints you need to use increases with level, and I'm guessing theres some corolation between your char level and magic level as its easy to gain magic +1, +2 and +3 (on a semi) but maintaining +4 gets more difficult.

You seem to gain a magic level per character level generally, so if you take if that it seems you need about 1300 monsters kills to level, my manapoints I need to use is somewhere in the 350k region to gain a new level.

Using a magical weapon does add to your %, but obviously on a much smaller scale.
Special magic spells all use mana, so they all count to your total, and that 1 mp your senseball uses will add to it as well...in about 17 years:p
If using the "right" magic against a creature gives more % is a good question...I'd assume using something correctly will increase your skill.

The only thing that you use manapoints for that doesnt add to your magic % is making small and huge building stones...pity.

Cinder.
WIth the exception of making certain items, your magic skill % is raised based upon the total mana you have used, compared to your current experience level.

It is possible to increase your %value without ever fighting a monster, but the skill itself cannot be raised to the next level without some form of combat (pvp and arena fights count).

Using a magical weapon has NO effect on your magic skill, since you are not practicing magic itself, you are simply poking monsters with an item that happens to be magical.

Generally speaking magic skill will rarely go above Experience level +5 but it IS possible to go much beyond that if you have the patience and willingness to waste thousands of clicks. FOr example you could sit outside your house and continually cast the manafountain and heal spells for a months, then attack a single monster to raise the skill level. If you did this enough times its possible to reach magic skill levels that FAR exceed your experience level, and are limited only by your IQ.
If it is true that using magical weapons does not raise your magic level, then what could have caused my digger/thief to gain a magic level after a fight using a magical weapon? The character does not carry a senseball and the only magical skill possesed is Homeport which had not been used.
yeah, my magical weapons have upped my magic level too. i hadnt added to my iq for a long time, then i added, but didnt use my spells and only my weapons, and i kept getting "+1 magic skill level!"

First let me say, "Thank you very much BlueGuru!" Your help on Larkinorguide.com is much appreciated!

Second, I plan on testing out the Magic skill % increase formula in the future. But let me add that sense this will be a long and tiresome, not to mention click based span, it will take a long time to calculate. Based on what's been said, chats with other players, and my own hands on knowledge i will try and determine how much mana is needed to lvl magic at a +1 through +4 basis. I will have to smack myself in the head a few times for even attempting to try this but, all's fun in games and ummm clicking? lol

Good luck and thanks for the heads up on info!

u will only get % on sucsessfull kills. I know from experience using the wrong magic u will still get the magic% as long as u kill the monster. i have tried with a low lvl char that did not make any wound then used the weapon and his % went up :)

ria:p
i got 70% magic when i lvled to 36 to keep me at +4, magic lvl 40 and 9% into it
im creating an account with 4 mages on it so id be happy to give some info if and when required just let me know in chat or something

MadX-(
ok justin just lvl he was 44% at +5 b4 he lvled now he is at 56%+4 :( sigh looks like a long climb back to +5 when will he keep +5 :'(
> WIth the exception of making certain items

This came up in chat today. Has anyone ever gotten mana from making items?!

I just did a little test to put this (mis)information to the test and it failed. I tried it with a level 1 character building an extinguished mananimbus for 10 mana, and got 0% increase. In combat, that character was earning 5% on his magic for every 3 mana spell he cast.

A follow up.

Level 2 character with magic level 2. Built 10 skivian daggers for 30 mana each (300 total), didn't gain a single %. Cast 1 healing spell for 20 mana and gained 8%. Cast it a bunch more times, gaining 8% each time.

Sandy
My mage has been building extra houseparts for the last little while now and and got 0% increase from around 500 extra houseparts (which is (400+400+10)*500=405000 mana points), so at level 32 (magic level 36) that would show something if it happened.

>My mage has been building extra houseparts for the last little while now

from what i remember, extra houseparts and building stones (small and huge) have long been known to not increase your magic skill. though sandy has now pretty much shown that building items in a mage tower does not increase your magic skill at all. there goes that myth... busted! at least sandy has confirmed that healing spell does add to your magic :) yay for sandy... aka the larki mythbuster team!
