so when the call went out......us "ROOKIE Yankees" and our allies answered that call...... and saved Europe and the world.
All free Nations saw the threat back then....just as it is seen today.....should we......the free Nations of the world....wait for a hostile entity like Saddam Hussein to deliver a bio-weapon or nuclear device to a large western city or country before we act.?.....logic and a common sense of survival dictates that we do not. 
We in America,  lost thousands of innocent people on September 11th 2001 to the twisted and insane forces of evil like those I have mentioned....and we are simply not willing to loose any more.
when and if the Scud Missiles are flying out of Iraq toward western populated areas of Europe and the Mid-east.......I would be very interested in what your views would be of us "ROOKIE yankees" then.... "your FUTURE"

Heh.. politics and patriotisms are out of place on this forum, in my opinion, but now that we're talking about it... the united states has a media that NEEDS UNBiASED COUNTERPOINT. Their reporters cheer their president no matter what he says in his press conferences... 

Hmm... there are big differences between strength and quality, also between the past and the present. The mongols were nearly unstoppable in their time.. does that mean that everyone should strive to be like them, or accept their culture as a mandatory norm?

Western Europe lucked-out in colonizing the west, but the states are even luckier in that they have no borders that have even the slightest chance of hostility. Their leaders (the corporate fatcats) are decadent because of traditions of barbaric exploitation that are unchallenged (well.. unsuccessfully challenged). The decadence has lead to a foreign policy that I think bears a striking resemblance to that of the Vikings in opportunistic warmongering (well.. don't know about the ravaging of women, though...). 

The United States has freedom... sort of... but the chaos, and irresponsibility, from that freedom has lead it into a corrupt overly-capitalist (communism's impossible without tyranny, but anything taken too far is hurtful) government run by a stock market that can only survive by the spoils of ongoing conflict and the exploitation of weaker economies. 

So much of what people from the states claim as a good quality of their country is simply from the benefits of their economy... the benefits of international aggression. The system needs to change before it eats itself, and the world bleeds from the resulting chaos.

PS: I'm using phrases like "people from the states" and the United States of America because so many people ignore that the American continents aren't entirely run by the U.S... I am Canadian, and thus an American, but not a citizen (and not supportive of the international position) of the U.S.

Hi there, is a fair bit of chest beating going on here ...If a point were to be made by myself, i would say that the united states held back, and waited for Britain to almost surcumb to its knees,before helping to hold back a threat to the world.The country i live in is backing the USA today!, to help stop another threat to the world ,i appreciate the commitment, the troops have to make for all of our future ....SPOOKY..ADELAIDE SOUTH AUSTRALIA   

BOTTOM LINE:

After WW2, the United States simply forgave BILLIONS of dollars of debt owed by several European countries....the biggest being France and England.

And you are right, the US held out until the very end (sort of), but the fact of the matter is that we came...and we came BIG time.  The course of the entire world might be VERY different now had the U.S. not sacrificed tens of thousands of our brothers, and fathers and uncles and such to go to war against the axis of evil at that time.

Now, in a time when again, thousands of our fellow countrymen have been slain by a global terrorist unit, the call goes out for support.  The only difference is that this time, the United States is asking those very same countries that were able to count on US when they needed it most to back us up in our struggle to end terrorism, yet, it seems a lot of Europeans are very quick to forget that had it not been for the United States of America, ther precious country might still be just a smoldering pile of rubble to this day.

The French call Americans 'wasteful' and 'stupid' and 'snobbish' when the fact is that if they would have FOUGHT instead of surrendering, maybe they could have accomplished something....not to mention the debt owed to us by the French ppl that was just written off.

The British......same thing.  While the Brits fought bravely, they simply could NOT have withstood the attacks from Germany without outside help, and guess who rushed to their aid and saved them? WE did.  End of story.

I'm sorry for you Canadian's that preferred Clinton....but if you remember, all of this could have been avoided.  The Clinton administration could have captured Bin Laden on THREE separate occasions, but ol' Bill decided to let him go.  Now you see what happened b/c of his stupidity.  Or maybe it was his ultra-liberal views that you liked so much...you know...increase foreign aid...increase taxes and spending etc.

I hate to be so rude but let's face it....Canada's army couldn't stand up to an armed group of my neighbors let alone a full-fledged army.  Maybe you should complain less and realize that the only reason Canada hasn't been taken over yet is b/c you are neighbors with the most powerful nation on earth.....either that.....or its just too cold to bother with.

Wow didnt know we where expected to pay for the help during WW2.I think we all expect another war with iraq and soon.Lets hope the american british aussie and canadian troops dont go on about who owes who and how much, Why all the bickering about WW2? its 80+years gone let be thankful we had brave men from all the allied nations who where willing to put there life infront of them for our future,when i read the papers,watch the news listen to people on the internet sometimes i think did they give there lives for nothing.Just remember theres NO WINNERS IN WAR JUST SURVIVORS.

I understand what you point was intended to be....BUT....the issue is that the same countries we bailed out now hate us with a passion.  Maybe we could have saved 10 thousand or so American lives and just let them fend for themselves.  I don't think that anyone owes the U.S. anything EXCEPT respect.  

well crash maybe to a point your right.i dont hate you or your country i disagree with some of the stuff they have done as i Disagree with a lot of what we have done in Britain.Its a fact of life most countrys hate us till they need us then were the best thing since sliced bread.;)

what if we have WW3? Then we'll have to use knowledge from WW2 and not make the mistakes we might of had done . I think that saddam and his buddies over there are hiding things we don't know about . Some of the News ppl are probally hiding somethings from us untill this is over . That's the way it's been and always has been w/ war . Actually , I do kinda agree w/ some of the others ideas like France for example , we always help them , they never help us when we're in trouble except over 200 years ago in the Revolutionary War but after that they haven't really helped us since .

SPOOKY.......i hate to be this way but seriously......I have no idea what country you are from, but it's a pretty safe bet that it recieves aid from the U.S. in some form or another.  

Your chest beating comments arent needed.  REmember...bite the hand that feeds you one too many times and you end up not being fed.  THAT'S the attitude I WISH the United States had.  In other words, we will help you, but you screw us over one too many times and you are on your own...or....if you hold general discontent with us for some stupid reason, again.......you are on your own.  But, since wiser people than I are in office, we keep forking over the handouts when there are starving people RIGHT HERE.

My opinion is simply this :  If you dont like the United States, stop accepting our help...and I mean humanitarian aid, monetary aid, and military aid.  After all, if you hate us soo much, isn't it stupid to accept help from someone you cannot stand?

Let's use North Korea as an example here shall we?  North Korea cannot STAND the United States.  This is common knowledge.  BUT-did you know that if the United States were to stop sending aid to North Korea, that over 50% of North Korea's population would STARVE TO DEATH.  So, EVEN in the face of a potential NUCLEAR threat, the United States continues to send humanitarian aid to North Korea.

If that's not something to beath the old hairy chest about, I dunno what is.
