Betting points in a game
Hi people,

I had an idea and wanted to know what you guys think of it. If we get enough positive response, this could probably be put into practise. I was thinking FOD could put in a point betting button and you could bet as many points as you wished. Of course there would be a minimum since sometimes you have a high ranker and a low ranker and the difference would be like 30 points. For example: ABC has 600 and XYZ has 200, then the minimum would be like 30 points since that is what ABC would lose if he were to lose the game. Also, thinking of putting a BO1, BO3, BO5, BO7 button as well. If anyone leaves without finishing the points will be automatically deducted. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks,
Ĉrown Thief
i think that is great idea m8(Y)
I think this is an excellent idea ;)

StreamLine
Sounds good buddy, hope they go for it. would stop all the whingin. gl

lays me down

Golden brown
nice idea alos it wud b easier for players to decide if they did wnt to play
For example: ABC has 600 and XYZ has 200

so ABC bets 600 points, and then concedes the game.......

i think not somehow, at least not without some kind of safety guards in place.

This is a general idea at the moment...All the details can be worked out as long as we have a generic path to follow. And of course, not 100% of the players will be totally satisfied with the idea no matter how many tweaks made. But again, just is just an idea.

Thanks,
Ĉrown Thief
Great idea m8!
Everything usay should be made here! :)
Also,

If push comes to shove, then we can put a maximum on the betting pool as well. Also, some minor details will include no point difference in same IPs, meaning some people that have more than one Nick, will have no point difference no matter how much they wager or how many games they play.

Thanks

It's a great idea mate, however I've seen an idea like this before and I think fod said they wont put it in as it is like gambling.
totally agree man, says like a sweet idea. but i gotta question, wuld this be the only wasy of getting points or wuld we still have the normal points system? and wuld the players have to agree on an idea?
sry not agree on idea, i meant points
yes its a good idea, and would stop all the whiners in lobby who say runner. somedays you think your watching the london marathon.lol
i think this is a brilliant idea but maybe it should be a seperate rating from normal like snooker pro. maybe have 2 of these rooms for 8ball 9ball and snooker with seperate ratings.
Why did i kno veriac wodnt like it. surley if ABC has bet 600 points he/she's not gonna quit. and if he/she does, dont u think thats there choice... unless envolved in tourny.(where betting wouldnt be allowed.)

anyway dont let him put ye off. com on people Fod needs U

what if he disconnects though - thats where Veriac was possibly coming from :|

Hardy
hey i understand bout the gamblin bit but surley they can fit bo1 bo3 bo5 buttons

It would be as an option, like when you first enter a game it will ask you if you like to wager...(yes or NO) if any player disagrees, then there will be no betting on that match.

Ĉrown Thief
If ABC does bet all 600 and conceded .. I see the banking in this

BUT

what if he wins ? does this mean XYZ drops to -200 ? :p lol jk

Maybe a set gamble of 16 should stay; still keeping the current rating system - if you win a lot, the ratings will eventually stay the same and won't get anything ..

The option for a best of (?) is good though

Bad Idea. To easy to cheat. It would also make points useless as a ranking system.

There is already a guard against players on the same IP.

BO button is good idea though.

Hello all...

I am hoping that Veriac's concern is about ppl possibly using this betting idea as a way to cheat the system. However, I feel the condescending manner in which his concern was conveyed was inappropriate. We are not all children and do not need to be treated as such. I believe most of us fully comprehend and acknowledge the need for safeguards. I personally feel that Crown Thief & the others posting to this topic have some very worthwhile ideas. Ideas that I hope the admin at FOD will really look at and consider, as their implementation is ultimately their decision, and not that of only one person. It would benefit us all to encourage and build upon them. That is one of the purposes of a forum is it not? - discussions and solutions? I too would also have to agree with Golden_brown and cheer all on to continue to work together to make FOD an even better place for all our enjoyment.
Respectfully,
Kite Flyer

P.S. soz..had more...[/

i know i'd like the chance to play some of my higher rated friends without damaging their rating. ~~~
WHEN I WIN !!
  lololl
The original rating system was changed a while ago to make it more difficult for people to cheat. The current system is considerably better than the old one, but still doesn't stop the minority from cheating on a regular basis. The idea of "
gambling
" points would make it even easier for those people who like to cheat.

If players are really concerned about their points that much, perhaps they should play their lower ranked freinds in the unrated rooms, where points are not an issue.

A bo(X) Games button is a good idea, but the idea of any change to the ratings system that will make it easier for the cheaters should be avoided.

  HMMMM.

One thing that everyone seems to forget,
(and yes, i expect arguements on this),
and that is that this is supposed to be a
family site, therefore, we do have (and no-
offence intended) minors on this site.

Encouraging gambling is NOT the intended idea
of a family site. Maybe some Adults/Parents should
consider this. Any form of "gambling", even for
ratings, would need a "Gambling Licence", unless i
am mistaken. As a scenerio to what i am trying to
get across: A 12yr old decides, ok, i have 180
points, i can bet 60 points on this game, i know
i will win, then, they happen to lose that game,
they then decide, ok, i have to get 60 points back,
and still come out in front, so they bet 100 points.

As they go through life, and have the odd bet here
& there, they soon start betting bigger to get back
to even. What is the outcome??

  Something to consider.

Macca's right ..

I lost 200,400 silver coins in the Larkinor Casinos because I was getting greedy :(

I guess that's life - when you have one thing, you something more, better ..

Oh well :D
Thank you all for your feedbacks, whether it be positive or negative, I appreciate the concerns everyone has for FOD. As far as gambline purposes and bringing parental guidance as such, that is a bit extreme since you are not gambline any $$$. The only reason I brought it too the attention was to get some new ideas out there, and as you can see alot of people are for it. Yes I do admit there seems to be some bugs that need to be fixed and that is the reason that I brought this up on the forum, to see what all of you FOD players think of it. Kite Flyer, thank you for the kind words of encouragement, and also thanks to everyone who posted. I am sure we can work something out, if not point wagering then I am sure we can incorporate the bo? buttons.

Thanks,
Ĉrown Thief
hiiiiiiiiiiiiii crown,
WELL I THINK ITS A BUFF IDEA..oops
i think it should happen, although i wont be around to test it out i hope it takes place and they do summet bout it.
good luck crown thief, and hope yer get it. if not...
dont worry, be happy. ;)
Hi again...

Veriac...thank you for clarifying your concerns, I am sure they are well founded.

Macca...good points made, things we all need to remember.

To all...nice to see a well-functioning discussion, way-to-go.

Kite
lolol the outcome will be they will eventually end up winning, maybe by a fluke and will get their points back:p if they play enough....but i do see where the mods are coming from here....maybe XYZ should go off the bed at the end of the ABC....

but i think the bo(x) idea is great....however have u considered that many people have to leave premeturly and not of their own free will? if a bo5 for example was decided, and then the person had to go out...it wouldnt be fair if points were deducted from him!

Couldnt there be some button that ment that even if a bo5 had been decided, the player that had to leave could explain his problem to the other player, and the other player could click that button if he agreed to let the other player leave before the bo5 was over, and the leaving player would then not lose his points?

just a concern as often i hate to leave unexpectedly.

sorry about the bad explanation, hope u can understand and take the time to read it:p thanx

Crown...
I like the idea of wager .... makes it interesting. I do understand where the MODS are coming from about cheating & so forth, but no matter what...losers always cheat :p

Anyhooos ...back to topic.. wager is great ...say on last shot you have the option of doubling your points say from 16 points to 32 points, or something like that. Even the bo3 button is a great idea.

Either way I would like to see something new & different added to the games.

Sandy :D

Disagree with wagering of pts, due to the many cheats
out there now, just giving those crooks a faster way to build pts.

Agree with this ideal of BO1, BO3 button, as a matter
of fact i thinks i can save energy from typing runner
in lobby lol. get er done

player ABC has 600, DEF 200, GHI 200, JKL 200, MNO 200 and XYZ 200 too. so ABC, play them all, win the games and you get more than 30 points...

bo3 button? YES!!!

huever mentioned the bo3 button during this post is a genius. its a great idea and if the person decides to leave after one match wen they have won then they lose the nxt 2 matches or sumin like that. you can only leave wen some1 has won twice
