It seems to me that there is a general decline of a feeling of fair play to be had in Tanx these days. Despite the lack of jumpers, many feel like most opponents aren’t playing clean.
I remember the game before it changed to accommodate subscriptions*, and how I would play as HoundFromHell mostly not using any powerups at all. Today, it seems many such as, for example: taliban_forces, base their games around timing it so that they are ALWAYS under effect of one powerup or another.
Opportunism is seen to be at a high. Players move sporadically from one op to another, disrupting them as they soon depart. This is much more pronounced than how it was before the new Tanx, especially considering how there are relatively less players.
However, I don’t mean to criticize. Change brings turmoil... it’s the nature of the world we live in. How a tanker plays is up to that tanker, so long as its within the rules. I’m fine with that (no, really, I am). I do have an opinion of what a GOOD game of Tanx is like, though, and
I’d like to see how many agree with my opinion on this
.
Good games, in my opinion, have these qualities:
-
The players stick around
for at least fifteen minutes (this lets all opponents face one another, and for them to adjust tactics and strategies, also for the game to be a true test of skill.)
-Powerups
(The power, shield, and accelerate, items)
aren’t used very often
. This makes the game evenly matched, but for the skills of each tanker (and maybe their internet connections ;) ).
-
Good conduct.
When tankers are rude or play unsportsmanlike, it kills the fun for some tankers. I don’t just mean the definition that FlyorDie uses in their rules, but instead an expanded one; to include fair play in the sense of not picking on weaker tankers (especially not for points) or tweaking kills by dispatching tanks that aren’t manned, or frozen, or whatever, also
-Evenly matched Tankers.
I love nothing more than a difficult fight, especially when skill levels are close.
I don’t mean to argue these points. It’s just what I find I like in a game, and the purpose of this topic is to see how many of you feel the same way. I know, and so do everyone else, that there are lots of people that disagree with what I’ve written here... with such points as the game being competitive, and that it was made for their style of play.
*I'll be getting one of those soon! :)
