I've been here a long time and never has an opponent claimed a draw ? Is this something new with the new format ? How can one just claim it's a draw ? I was a man up and needed to make a few moves and I would have won. He claimed a draw !

Draw The game is drawn when there is no capture or promotion to king for 50 pairs of consecutive moves. The game is drawn automatically if there is no winner after 300 moves (150 each). Please see also the very detailed explanation provided by FlyOrDie "DEVELOPER".
