To operator : point system should be changed
Hello operator

First, thank you for this fantastic game that is curling and thanks for the evolution of it : it's great ! :-)

I would like to give you a suggestion.

The points system should be changed... if you have a rating system, the rating system should reflect the real level of a player.

Unfortunately, it is not always the case.

Some player just play agains beginners. I have nothing against those player. They say "I can play with who I want". They are right. But when you have 300 points and you play a 0-rating player, a win shouldn't earn you any point. (win without risk is to triumph without glory).

It would be easy to have a new rule in the rating system :
more than 200 points difference = no points in game...
(200 is a lot in curling game where the best are about 370),

We will see if the player that are here concern will always "teach" the beginners :-)

Thank you Operator for reading me, hope to have some news from you about this subject !
Hi swiss-girl, I generally agree with you, except if you do beat a player with a big point differential you are rewarded with a big point gain and the opponent takes a big hit in his ratings. So the odds are he will win, but he is taking a big risk too. If you want to play a high rating player its your choice.
Yeah if a 200 plays a new person and only wins by 1 or 2, he will lose a lot of rating points. It's risky, that is their choice.
No, Mark, that's not risky.

Cause, in curling, when a player that has 200 plays a new player, he will never lose.

The risk is 0
, so it shouldn't give any point !

I can prove it : in backgammon, where luck is quite important, a good player never plays a beginner... the risk is to big. In curling, there is a lot of
"zero-heroes"
... Why ? Cause there is no risk to do it...
If a 200 player has 1 bad end, they can lose a lot of points, that's the risk. Don't be upset by those players, they can't beat people with skill, let them have their fake win.
I am not upset...just that it would be better if the system changes...
Do change the point system,
main thing is to make the "advantage" of being lower rated less. Could be done by making the win expectancy for a rating halved. F. Ex:

Rating 485 vs Rating 312
Win expectancy = 0.73 and 0.27. I mean this should be 61/62 and 38/39
.

This would prove more exciting to a lot of players I think. This would give the better player a good chance to gain rating if winning, instead of having to win 2-0,3-0,4-1,5-1 etc...as soon as the low rated gets 2 or 3 points he is likely to gain rating!! Very hard to be a higher rated player.
