>To Paralyzed, are you initiating that the rules of flyordie are pathetic ?
I'm not Paralyzed but I will suggest that some of the rules on here are pathetic (or more accurately too ambiguous). :) The rule in question (1.1) is hardly easy to define. What exactly is
similar
? Is it that the nickname is the same except for a small dash of an alt code? Is a name similar when it is a celebrity that a lot of other nicknames will represent?
Last night I saw a lot of new "Obama08, BarackObama" type names being created.... should all but the original be removed?
Look how many "Steve Davis" nicknames are on this site... should FOD remove all but the original? I would say (And most of the moderators probably would agree) that such names which have been created (As Paralyzed and Scotty have rightly said) as "fan" nicknames to snooker players have no issue of being copies.
Another point is that who is to know if there is another name out there that is similar to you? How would you feel if you found out someone had the name Stoichkov registered before you and they decided to try and get your name removed? If FOD want to implement the rule effectively then they need to sort out a system which says whether a nickname is a "close" copy of one currently on the database (Which in my opinion would be near impossible.)
It
can
become an issue of course. If someone makes a copy of your name, goes around abusing people and pretends they are the original account then that's an enitrely different matter.
And if you want a decent debate about an issue (You seem like an intelligent fellow) then is there any need for comments like:
If your having trouble finding the RULES ! ! scroll down to the bottom of your reply page and click moderation. And walaaaaa there you have the rules.
But a person who has 600 + posts to there name should have no trouble at all
Martin (Paralyzed) has been on this site for longer than most and knows a great deal about the issues on here and when he posts, he gets straight to the point (Unlike me, as you can see :p) and is correct with nearly everything he says..... there really is no point trying to patronise his knowledge on this forum ;)
