hey fellow flyordiers, I have always believed, upon my arrival on this website, that the place is more of an online community as opposed to a stepping stone along peolpe travels on the vast expansive ocean, that is the world wide web. Many players say they will leave and many do, but not for ever, i myself have done it many times. I first played this website back in my school days, in about 2001, un nicked, masked.... un identifiable, even then i could tell this was different, it had more character than many sites, namely places such as 8ball club, and yahoo pool. I then left the site, but returned whilst revising for my A Level examinations. I created a nick, and i was away, meeting many players on my travels, Scotty, Squirelli, Davemeister, Jaswild, to name but a few... it was a fun place to while away spare time... Recently this site has gone in to somewhat of a decline i feel, it no longer seems fun to play on here anymore, theres no real challenge, not in terms of skill, there are some superb players out there, but in integrity, and real grudge matches, largely down to the fact that many players names have been banned, so they no longer put any effort into these names anymore... therefore you get people creating new names, and in many cases new personas. I have always felt that one way to get this site back on track would be for people to have their original/favourite nick back... this isnt just me preaching for my nick back... as you can see my nick is very similar to my original... as its an online community i would also like to share with you a link to my personal myspace page, i like to know who im talking to whilst playing, and also feel that if certain people knew who they were abusing, as in knowing what they look like, then people would think twice about being quite so childish, and bring this site back to the thriving enjoyable experience it once was, and can be again. www.myspace.com/snookerace you will find a video of me playing snooker for real on there also... i would be very interested to see if any of you out there have videos of yourselves playing snooker for real, i would find it quite enjoyable to watch, because i love snooker. if any of you have got personal web spaces, i would love to see them i truly believe that if people know who they are talking to, then the rude and abusive behaviour would be cut down by atleast 50%! thanks for now Fret

wow i was just thinking upon similar views!!!! I am a chess player and the very same thing happened to me. All the cool people and regulars that use to bring life to the site have become banned by some hateful jealous sukker ( the snitches) that only dreamed of getting some socialism into there miserable nonlifes. so i was thinkning and adult room per game that would allow most anything cursing, swearing,and all other types of competitive adult behavior. which is what does and always will happen in reality. not all of us here are infant like and need to cry to mommie cause he said she said. I would love to keep going on and on but whats the use. I do totaly agree somethings could change to satisfy the mature players here at fod. vote yes for the new "ADULT ROOM #1 " for every game.
Pretty much true fret, I've kept the same nick since starting here...albeit created a few others but didn't really mess with them much. I have a myspace but I don't use it except to contact some indie bands or other "unknowns" also would enjoy playing snooker but around here there are not many places with the type of table or appropriate set of balls to play the game. Don't play here much at all anymore faded away when others dropped most notably Beppe and Jaswild, just not really the same place anymore.

Oh please... you are nit picking at Peter's post, and personally I think the idea of this "Adult" room is total ridiculous. How exactly are you going to prevent children going into a room for adults (Yes it is easy for someone to say they are 21 when really they are 15). Good riddance to your "cool" chess buddies who were banned because they loved to insult and swear at every option they got in order to "socialise". It's exactly the sort or trash we don't want around here. Try out your theory, walk into a snooker club, hurl a barrage of swear words at the first person you see and observe the result...You won't be around here for a while if you try as it's hard to type with a broken arm, fractured fingers and a snooker cue up your backside ;)

Yea fret especially in snooker this site has gone completely downhill, every day its same players playin each other, and how did this happen...? Quick snooker, as soon as Fod made quick snooker to its priority people started leaving and now its a load of rubbish in snooker basically + theres alot of cheats in Snook now especially the German players.
i agree 100% with all of chris' points. you can't prevent kids from entering adult rooms. and swearing and insulting isn't the real way to play games. and if people want to come into fod games and just do that while they play, after agreeing to terms of service which say not to (whether they read them or not)... then they deserve the punishment they got. --jason (glad the site has rules, and isn't a free for all)
Fret I seem to disagree with you, I suspect the majority of players who abuse on here (without provocation) are higher ranked players, I have played people under the age of 21 and the most of them come across polite and sportsman like, yes there is a great community here still!! adults and high ranked players mostly seem to think they are above moderation. Problem comes with players like yourself who get bored with being too good. reading between the lines it looks like your asking for a banned name to be given back to you as well as your mates banned names and if you have a permentantly banned name this must mean you are one of the culprits your complaining about, if so is this considered ban evasion, and I'm pretty sure you cannot play on this site and post in this forum. If we did have a adult room, i propose it should be 25 and over (which would mean you would have to wait another 5 yrs until u can play with the big boys). I hope you passed your exams, but your post is slightly hypocritical.
This subject has been covered here so many times and to be honest.. it always results in the same ending really.. after the insults start to fly about skill or the ethnic background of another....or whatever.. all parties retreat to their respective corners and wonder if it was a worthwhile conversation to be in.. Personally.. I feel that like anything in life... it's all in what one makes of it.. playing these games can be enjoyable or it can be miserable... it depends on how receptive one is to persuasion and "reading between the lines" I suppose.. if one is thin-skinned and reacts to intimidation from another person hundreds...or thousands of miles from them.. then they should stand back and re-evaluate what it is they were looking for in the first place.. gameplay on the web.. thats all it is.. nothing more and nothing less.. the people/ members make the community.. I think it's all about attitude and consideration.. ie: instead of playing or complaining about a certain player or group of players.. one has to be selective of who they play.. if you have a "bad" experience with another user... simply refuse to play that user again.. obviously as the moderation team is comprised of all volunteers they cannot be monitoring 24/7... we do try our best to weed out the worst..but it is a constant battle when your dealing with thousands of site abusers who think they can do as they wish on FoD and feel as if no one can find out who they are... believing that is simply dumb.. IP addess's can be tracked by the site owners.. (to a degree) and law enforcement can as well...to a much higher level of detail.. anyone who believes this not to be true... needs a wake up call on life.. Anyway.. just another view in the mix by a long time member here and a very long time member of the internet.. it's all about attitude... GHOST
i understand your point ooooOOOO0OOOOoooo. But you will notice i have never hidden behind a name. my names have always followed on, I was indeed one of the culprits, but not a major player... However that is besides the point of my post. the underlying point that i wanted to bring to peoples attention is the reason people do provoke, insult etc etc. I believe that people insult on here because they can hide behind a persona that they have created, which is often a gross, over exaggerated form of what they think is cool!, so my point was simply, if these people had nothing to hide behind, and people knew their faces, it would make a person more "real" on the internet. I know however that these ideas are just simply that... ideas. because not everyone would show themselves.. for whatever reason, i dont care. It was merely a suggestion/psychological, social question. AND, Ghost, i totally agree with your post but i think my views co-incide with your points about people making the game how they want it to be... Fret dont take me wrong, i totally agree with you and ghost, but its ok to pass judgement on situations and just brush them off, I have chatted to people from all around the world on here and the majority are very cool, and i'm not saying it's all high ranked players or younger players who abuse and act like this, i think most people have got frustrated at the games they play if their having a bad day alot let that frustration get the better of them with it ending with a demerit or ban. weather we think the demerits and bans are justified, doesnt really matter, i think all mods on here do a thankless task and the ones i have seen in the pool rooms usually give fair warnings to people if their stepping out of line. One last thing, I have played you a few times fret and you have been pretty cool and good fun to play, my last post was abit 'tongue in cheek'. Lets not forget the people who run leagues in FOD, these people are good ambassadors for FOD and have their own little communitys going in their league rooms which does spill out into the normal rooms, which results in fair play and fun. I dont think seeing a photo or picture of a person would help, if people seen mine i might be more abuse :D ;)
Who cares if children can get into the adult room? Children can get on to pretty much any site on the internet. If theres an adult room and children enter it that is their choice and FoD still keeps its family friendly site. Any child that goes to school will experience swearing so how on earth will seeing it written on FoD make a difference. All you need is one adult room where people are allowed to have a laugh and say what they like exept racism and other insults. Most the good players who have been banned arn't childish, they have been banned because maybe they said 'oo that was ****:p' to their mate, and someone sent in a screen shot. All FoD would need to do would be to make it clear that the person was entering an adult room where swearing, but not diliberate attacks on other people, is allowed. To avoid confusion upon entering normal rooms there should be another warning, that swearing will be dealt with much more harshly, so everybody knows if they swear they WILL be banned. That would cut down on people who don't want to see swearing getting offended, and stop players who are just having a laugh with their friends getting banned. At the end of the day what I have just said is right, anyone disagreeing is just stupid. I'm not saying I believe there should be an adult room, only that if there was one it wouldnt matter if children got into it as long as they knew they were entering it. (Obviously I'm under no asumption that FoD would ever make a adult room)
I feel the last part of Ghosts post is rediculous, maybe he wrote without thinking? Or doesn't actually know the extent of abuse that goes round the site. Tbh no matter how 'thick skinned' you are, someone telling you to do something to a dead relative is going to be offensive. No matter how far away they are it still brings up an image in your mind, which is exactly what the person saying it wants to happen. Going with Ghosts argument that people shouldn't mind if even normal insults are said to them, surely this applys in real life? People who are bullied are better people than the bully themself so why care what the bully says? Because thats no how people work. You're kidding yourself if you think people are just going to sit down and take being insulted, its a natural instinct to fight back. Its interesting how its only the people who do fight back who get banned though isnt it? The person who starts it always gets away...

erm, WHY should we be allowed to swear? can you not express your feelings without using swear words? To me that seems pathetic, and somewhat childish. I can understand in real life cursing under your breath through frustration, its just a impulse reaction. But to go through the effort of typing in a swear word after, i can guarantee the intitial feeling will be gone!
i never said anything about wanting an adult room, i think thats a silly idea for the reasons iv already given... and no i dont say iv never swore on here, but i dont need to swear, i could control myself but didnt, i was younger then

That was my point, the fact there is an adult room would make punishments much harsher on the non adult room and would make it more family friendly. I was just putting the point out for the sake of it really, I personally don't think theres much point in an adult room, it would split the players up. Although I think all the top players would play in the adult room.
I agree we need an adult room where we can have the old style fod before the days of the mod.

Adult rooms are a waste of server space and good bandwidth.. if someone feels so compelled to go out and spend a few grand for a nice PC...get it hooked up to the Internet with a decent connection only to bulldoze around the web to chat sites (of any kind) and make a complete fool of themselves in a "Adult" room...all I can say is... hey.. it's their money... and having it sure does'nt make them smarter.. it's a rediculous concept.. FlyOrDie is promoted as a family friendly site... you will never see anything even remotely like whats being discussed.. is there a solution? sure...there always is.. we need to go back to the money though.. not the foolishly spent kind.. the wise investment kind... buy a license to the game(s) from FlyOrDie and host them on your own server and infrastructure.. open them to the public and allow a free for all unmoderated chat... followed by the site ending up in the tank in less than a year because reputable sponsors don't place any advertisements on adult sites..
