Hundreds of thousands of immigrants and their supporters gathered in cities around the country today in demonstrations and an economic boycott intended to show the impact the workers have on the nation's economy as Congress grapples with new immigration legislation.

In Los Angeles, police were preparing for 500,000 demonstrators at two rallies, but hours before they began, downtown streets were already clogged, inaccessible to vehicular traffic.

From Los Angeles to Chicago, New Orleans to Houston, the “Day Without Immigrants” attracted widespread participation despite divisions among activists over whether a boycott would send the right message to Washington lawmakers considering sweeping immigration reform.

“We are the backbone of what America is, legal or illegal, it doesn’t matter,” said Melanie Lugo, who was among thousands attending a rally in Denver with her husband and their third-grade daughter. “We butter each other’s bread. They need us as much as we need them.”

“We don't reject immigrants, or say they don't matter to our country. Our country was founded by immigrants, and populated by those that left their oppressive countries to seek freedom. The Statue of Liberty stands as a symbol of freedom, and welcomes immigrants to our nation. We don't want to refuse or even lose the immigrants that want to come to our country, follow protocol and become American citizens. They have much to offer us.
I see some immigrants decided to play dress-up. Well, if they really care about theirs jobs, they would be working instead of protesting.
how can someone be heard if they dont raise their voice??
So what are everyone's opinions on the Illegal Immigration front? Should Americans let illegal immigrants stay in the U.S. only because it benefits them monetarily? Or should all illegals be forced to leave regardless of what they are doing for America?
How about the immigrants do the process right and become legal?
Wow, a USA thread which I haven't found anything to criticize about yet! :O

Thinking hard

Nope, it's about time that Congress thought more about the economy which affects the real people, and not just about the stock holdings of the rich. I am happy to see these pictures X, thanks for sharing.
My stance as an American.

If they got a job and a place to live let em stay.

For those who are missing one of those turn ya head for a minute.

But close the boarder, as you can see in the pictures I think we have enough to last a while. (specialy when they are averging more than 2 kids)

Snipe
I think Snipe nailed it. As long as the immigrants own land/house and work for a living, they should be allowed to stay.
and not takin damn benefits like they do in england were i work mi a$$ off and they take it all back in tax and then they get a bigger house and better quality stuff then me damm tony blair he bloody useless :|
Same thing happens here in the U.S.
To Snipe, The Rebel and craig-bellamy05

In order for immigrants to get a "job" and a place to live we need to be "legal"... they are not legal here that's why we us for an immigration reform.

Some People call us terrorist... we are not terrorists .. we came here looking for a better life... is not only mexicans the ones that are immigrants here .. it's most of countries of the world... BUT THE BIG "DIFFERENCE" is that Mexicans or Hispanics.. are the ones that are doing the jobs that most americans wont do..

We dont get everything back by doing taxes.. thousands of immigrants wont report their taxes because they know their working papers are illegal.. now where does all that money goes?
To the State of California... it costs them 30 millions to cover all their spends in immigrats per year..
Immigrants give the State 100 millions per year
100 - 30 = 70 where's that money Arnold????

....X....

I need you to explain a few things in your post for me.

>>In order for immigrants to get a "job" and a place to live we need to be "legal"

>>Mexicans or Hispanics.. are the ones that are doing the jobs that most americans wont do..

So they are doing jobs they can't get ??

Your whole post kinda contardicted itself claiming illegal immigrants can't get jobs and then talking about how immigrants are not filling for tax returns and basiclly giving money to the state.

Maybe you should re-read my post to better understand my stance on immigrants, and a possible reform.

Snipe
Im with snipe...if they are in capable of gettin a job or a place to stay then send em back over the border. On the stance of them doing the jobs most americans wont do. Look at those jobs typically they less mentally demanding jobs. Its not our fault many of them do not have the mental capacity to get better jobs. We already baby them enough with welfare we cant spoon feed every person in this country as well. When it comes to the IRS and tax refunds...many dont file for it because they dont wanna prove to the government that they are illegal immigrants. Honestly if ur gonna start a forum like this try to do a lil research before u belittle urself. On the other hand hey hey snipe lol.
>We already baby them enough with welfare

The US has a welfare system? Why don't you explain what people "babied with welfare" receive, and how long for?
Sorry... what made America great? Immigrants? Really? YES.
The immigrants that come here haven't changed much, it's just recently immigrants have been entering illegally. That's the issue.

And Beppe, welfare is just a scam to "steal from the rich, give to the poor." Now in some cases its plausible, but in many, it's just booze/drug money.
And I'm not clear on how long or how much they receive the money.
So you are suggesting that we shouldn't look after people who don't have money for genuine reasons?
I said welfare was plausible in some cases, such as the mentally handicapped people who have a hard time working. Sometimes people are too fat or too lazy to work and demand the government for a welfare check. It's a highly abused system.
The current US poverty rate is 12.7% (37 million people), but there is a major discussion going on about the definition of poverty. Compared to the methods used by other countries, this figure should be closer to 20%. To be fair though, I think that the UK has a similar rate.

HOWEVER... the UK will provide free education and healthcare, which I believe should be basic rights in any developed country. The UK also provides housing benefits for low or zero income families, and does not limit the time a person can receive income benefits in reasonable cases. The US in comparison adopts a "get it if you pay for it" attitude towards education, health and housing, a system which almost ensures that the poor have little chance to move forward in future generations. I am not saying the UK system is perfect (it's far from it), but it does give people chances that the even more flawed US system fails to provide.
>It's a highly abused system.

Yes, and I think that side of human nature encourages a flawed system.
Beppe, here in America free healthcare and education are great things. But who pays for the kids that go to these "free" schools? I go to a private school, yet we still pay taxes to government schools. The US government has to get its money somewhere, and the people who have worked hard to earn money are being heavily taxed.
Let me try to explain myself more:

I believe that education, housing, food and health are HUMAN RIGHTS. Todays 1st world claims to be humintarians, people who fight for rights and freedom. The money spent by the US in Iraq could have more than paid for a fair education system in the US. It could have solved ALL the curable disease problems in Africa. It could have done MANY different POSITIVE things at home or around the world. All it has done is DESTROYED the Iraqi infrastucture, REDUCED the level of freedom in that country, INCREASED US debt and INCREASED intake into private US companies linked to Bush and friends. Whilst I agree that the welfare state should not become a tool for those who wish to take without giving back, when it comes to financial costs it is a minor expenditure compare to much more pointless issues.

I don't believe in increasing taxes to pay for welfare, but to increase state efficiency and to stop moving taxpayers money to private pockets by stealth. The benefits are that you would have a much more stable country and economy, safer and more pleasant to live in. Wellbeing in lesser areas would strengthen what the average person will gain from society as a whole.
