A good percentage of the lag on this site is down to the fact you are under attack from tracking cookies,i get about 5 hits a minute,1 of them was for 3 years plus also if i play a none subscriber i get over spill from there ads (my cue sticks & a white ball that goes at mac 3 after i had tapped it).
I will not even talk about tanx, lets just say my tanx move very slow through only what i can describe as treacle, 0.01 mph is not a good speed in tanx you tend to be killed alot.:) 

the ntl advert makes it impossible to play its to jupy to aim n shoot all the other ads are ok though

I don't know how they do it, but some of the Flash ads really affect the game. Before I subscribed Verizon was the worst culprit. I am almost sure it's done deliberately to grab your attention.

Subscribe and get rid of the adverts, it helps. Also clear your PC of spyware and viruses, defrag your HD and make sure you have enough free space. Make sure you have enough RAM and a reasonable processor speed - if you are running at 600mhz/128MB, don't do anything else when playing. etc.
