Lag due to animated ads
I've got a cable modem connection to the internet. Recently I've had a lot of problems with the lag due to certain new animated advertisements ("New smiley face" and "kill the alien").

Soon as one of those ads kick in, the game is so choppy you can't play. After the add is finished, the game returns to normal.

Can anything be done about this on your end? It's not my system or my connection.

I don't mind the advertisements, but I don't think it's good when they interfere with your session. I've talked with others who have the same problem.

Thank you.
Forgot to mention that the game I play is Tanx. :)
FoD rely on the ads to provide you with a free game. If this is what the companies want to do to grab your attention, there is little you can do about it. Unless the inconvenience drives people away, I don't think it will change too soon. The best way to avoid this is to subscribe and get rid of the ads altogether.
Thanks for your response. You said pretty much what I expected to hear. I do have a subscription for another nic, but sometimes play an alternate.

Perhaps you can pass this concern up the chain a bit? An advertisement is one thing, but in-your-face system disruption is another. Ads like those others will most certainly be bad for FoD business and make for many unhappy players.

Thank you again,

TraLaLaLa
I don't represent FoD, but I know that people higher up the chain do read this. From a business point of view, they only need to act if it hurts income. The only way this will happen is if people stop playing.

For the actual companies, using intrusive Flash 7 ads is actually quite a smart idea. Like yourself, I generally find it easy to ignore the ads. When Verizon stepped in with the first intrusive FoD ad (to the best of my knowledge), it made playing snooker very annoying. However, it made me notice the ad, and now Verizon is a product I am aware of. As much as I hate them for it, if ever I am faced with them amongst a choice of products I will certainly think of checking them out. Their ad worked, and as I said above - if people keep on playing, they'll continue to use this tactic.

I posted about this a while ago, and the answer was basically the same as my first - subscribe if it bothers you. I did, and to be honest playing without ads altogether is a far more satisfying experience. I would recommend it, as the cost is pretty low anyway.
Ooops, you are a subscriber and you know the benefits already :)
I Hope it is OK to post this, if not, my apologies. :).

After doing some research, I've got an answer to the lag problem caused by animated advertisements that utilize embedded objects in the web page (Flash, Java, etc.).

Of course the best solution is to
subscribe
to the game and let FoD get a few dollars for these great games, but I understand that nobody wants to pay for multiple ids/nics to the same game.

I have the
ZoneLabs
firewall, which can be customized to block the flash ads by following a few simple steps:

01)
Click on the firewall icon in lower right tray of the Windows tool bar (bottom of screen).
02)
Click on the "Privacy" selection on the left.
03)
Select on the "Site List" tab and locate flyordie.com
04)
Click once on flyordie.com so it is highlighted.
05)
On the bottom of the window, click on "Options".
06)
In the new "Site Options" window that pops up, click on the "Mobile Code" tab.
07)
Check off the "Block embedded objects (java,ActiveX)selection.
08)
Click on the "Apply" button and exit out the firewall windows.

As stated earlier, this will
only
stop embedded objects such as Flash animated ads from displaying. Other script driven ads will still appear. You will see a blank white area along the top or left side of your window when an ad is prevented from loading.

Good Luck!
