problem with connection
i just got my new broadband connection, but now i kept getting disconnected from flyordie rooms...i have lost A LOT of points from this,do u know what could be the problem?
What kind of broadband connection, and how does is it interfaced to your PC? (i.e. cable or adsl modem, wireless, router etc.)
i didnt understand exactly what u mean about the type of the connection,if u meant the speed its 512kb.
i use a adsl router, connected to my pc via usb cable
>i didnt understand exactly what u mean about the type of the connection

What kind of broadband connection:
ADSL

and how does is it interfaced to your PC?:
USB

I am
guessing
that you have up to date anti-virus and spyware installed? Are you suggesting that you had a modem with no or little disconnection problem, but this has changed since getting ADSL?
Right, been thinking about this.

The first thing to consider is whether you have the correct splitter or filter or whatever it is that ADSL uses. Do you get full download speeds for a 512kbps connection? You should get a download speed of up to 64KB/sec. Try downloading a large file to see what you get - try WXPSP2 at Microsoft, see what the speed stabilises at (approx):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

(If that doesn't work, try
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/downloads/default.mspx
and find "Windows XP Service Pack 2 for IT Professionals and Developers")
Tell me what the speed is.

Next, USB provides enough bandwidth in theory the low speed rate is 3 times your ADSL connection, but have you tried using an ethernet cable? If you have the option, try this.

The next possibility is that your modem or ADSL signal is faulty. I had problems with my cable connection recently. My ISP sent engineers out on several occasions to change various components and splitters. My thought was that the modem was faulty, and after a few "If it works it isn't faulty" speeches and 2 tech visits to look at the cabling I turned out to be correct. Keep it in mind as a possible problem.
-as for the antivirys and the spyware, the answer is yes.yes the whole problem started after i got the new connection.

-i m downloading at about 54-58 kbps but thats the normal speed for 512kb connections in my area,so i m guessing there is no prob there.

-i ve also thought to try ethernet,i did but same result.

-yes there might be some problem with the modem, coz sometimes it appears to lose connection to the internet and i have to reboot the modem to reconnect.(that happens at irrelevant times with my dc's)
54-58KB/sec (there is a difference between KB and Kb/kb) is a normal download speed for a 512kbps connection.

There are three possibilities off hand which can cause packet loss, all of which may disconnect a billiards game:

1 - Modem is faulty
2 - Cable is faulty, too long or excess cable is coiled too tightly
3 - DSL signal is not perfect.

Make sure that #2 is not the fault if you have a spare cable (preferably of the correct length), then ask your ISP to run diagnostics on the line. They should be able to produce metrics on your connection - mine did when I had a problem, confirming that there were packets dropped because of the connection. Oh, and make sure that the cable is not trapped or stressed in any way - placing a piece of furniture on a cable for example can damage it permanently.
ok,thx a lot i ll check all of them and reply back when i do,probably in the weekend coz i m a bit busy at the moment.thx 4 ur time m8..:)
so...
i have had my connection checked and i have been said it works properly.
However i m still getting disconnected all the time, even more often than before...this has been going on for 2 weeks,i have gone from 500+ to 200+...:s:s.i m thinking of quiting playing(again:p) till this gets sorted..:(
any other suggestion..??
What did you use before? If it was a modem then try that. If the modem is fine, then call your ADSL company and tell them that something is causing a break in the connection and that they have to deal with it. Otherwise get your money back and swap companies. My ISP actually trusted me that something was wrong when I told them I was having problems, and worked with me until it was solved. That's how it should be.
yes it was a modem, and yes it is working fine,i tried using the modem yesterday for one and a half hour and i had no problems.i called the helpdesk of the company this morning, they said they are going to send their technicians over tomorrow.i just have to wait and see i guess...
It's often a waiting game, especially if the fault is not so obvious. As long as you have a working reference - in this case the old modem - then the company should search for a solution. It could be the ADSL modem, the line, a splitter somewhere or a fault somewhere else in the system. Just stay on top of them.
so...back to the topic:p
the ppl from the company finally came yesterday after a lot of checking and stuff they switched my modem with a new one.when they did everything was working properly but yesterday night i started getting disconnected all the time again...
So you know it's not the modem. Probably a faulty filter somewhere. Do you have an ADSL filter connected at your phone socket? Did they try to replace it?
i have the same problem and i think its to do with flyordie as i play other games and they dont get disconected at all only when playing pool.
the higher my points go up the more times i get disconected. i have played over 400 games and not lost alot of them very big % of them was being disconected
me to have this problem today
well since it all goes here, might as well join in. So here is my problem, the PC i'm on now worked well with FoD pool before they updated or whatever, now I get in am able to play about an hour (it varies between an hour and a half hour) and boom disconnected. Here is what I can gather as for those thinking it is my system; my system is perfectly ok for doing java I updated java a couple days ago, my system is spyware, adware, and virus free (as i've scanned everytime after a d/c) the server computer is down here but the network seems otherwise fine (don't know if it could be the server) and it is not the firewall or router...so could someone please help me with figuring out this problem?
yes i do have a filter in my phone shocket and no they didnt try to replace it..:pi just do it myself,i ll go buy a new one.
dam technisians..:p

PS:i was on vacation thats why it took me so long to answer
I'm also having the same problem with staying connected. I too believe it's the site flyordie.com. What I would like to know does it happen to only non-subscribers or everyone? It is very annoying.
Billiardman's problem is different. You other guys probably should do this:

Try deleting your spyware every time before you play. Use Spyware - Search and Destroy (occasionally) to get rid of marketing programs and Ad-Aware (often) to get rid of the rest. www.download.com hosts genuine copies. Make sure you check for updated definitions every time before running.

Also make sure that you don't have Kazaa, Limewire etc. running when you play.
It's not my PC, I have had it looked at three times now and my PC checks out fine...so, what is the problem here? I keep getting disconnected time and time again, and it is not on my side...which leaves one side it could be, that would be FoD...considering the small amount of people that this is affecting I fear that this will be overlooked and cast aside, however it is a good possibility that it is FoD's problem and not our's
This happens a lot to other players to..including myself..I was d/c 8 times yesterday..and it is usually when i play on the download version of pool/snooker..

StreamLine
apparently no one listens, I D/C AND IT IS NOT ON MY SIDE...FOD ADDRESS THIS PLEASE...YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE NEEDS WORK TOO ;)
If you are using ADSL modems, which require filters, make sure the following things are done.

1 - Make sure that EACH phone socket that has a phone connected to it has its own ADSL filter attached. If you dont, you will get static and disconnected loads.

2 - If you have call waiting features, turn them OFF. Some phone providors are known to have their call waiting functions kick off the modem connections.

3 - Make sure that the physical cables attached to the modem/pc are LESS than 2 metres in length, or 5 metres in length if if you are using high quality cables. Longer cables means more signal loss.

4 - If you are still getting disconnected loads, run a traceroute and ping check to see exactly where the data loss is occuring.

Of course, all of the above asumes that yer pc isnt clogged up with useless clutter like spyware etc. and that your modem itself isnt broken!

If you are using the modem Sagem fast 800 usb, then you can throw it. It s better also choosing Ethernet than usb.
Did them all...hence the fault does not lie within my system...everything checks out on my side and I mean everything...looked at and looked at and looked at multiple times and my system is just fine, no spyware/adware/virus, check that after I get a d/c...trace does fine ping is fine my connection is fine...thus this fault does not lie with me
>thus this fault does not lie with me

What is your MTU set at? Even if you are right, there a long path between you and fod... any component inbetween you and them could be causing a problem.
MTU was 1500, changed it too 1468...doesn't seem to make a difference no matter how low the setting is...experimented and have had the same result every time
Try at 1400, makes a difference for me.
