popups on subed nic
I am haveing a problem with popups, my nic is subed in tanx, think it maybe because i play larknor unsubed. i have a good ad ware remover and it can't find anything on my system, when i surf the web most times not bothered by popups, just mainly when i am in tanx, it is annoying esp sence i paid subscription so i wouldn't have the ads and popups, i don't really want to install a popup blocker. i'm on a dinasour of a puter and popup blockers lower my resorces. esp sence here is the main place it is a problem. also when i leave tanx i have to reboot to get the sound to work on anything else. also when ever i download the pc tanx the sound comes out garbled. i've downlaoded it several times always the same thx for listening and hope you can help me correct some of my problems.
Can you clarify that if you don't play Larkinor, the ads disappear when you play Tanx? If they still appear, then make sure you have cookies enabled. If it is, try deleting your cookies and loggin in to Tanx.
i have cleaned out all temp files and cookies and go streight to tanx and still have popups. i'm not real computer savy but i've learned alot over the years and i've done everything i can think of. i've run ad ware remover and regestry mechanic exployer repair tool scan disc belark adviser and defraged. excuse my spelling
Presuming that you are using Internet Explorer, got to the tools drop down menu and select internet options. Click on the privacy tab. Mine is set to "Medium" and it works. I would imagine that blocking all cookies or using the "High" setting will block the cookie which tells the game that you subscribe. Reduce the setting by on each time until it works, but if you are already at or get to medium, then the problem is likely to be elsewhere.

Isn't there a downloadable version of Tanx? If there is, wouldn't that be a better option?
You do not get any ads only pops?
When do these pops appear? during play or when you close the game?

Thx,

OP

it happens while playing everyonce in awhile in the lobby but not offten and the popups is all no ads so i think it's known im subscribed. i think something is imbeded in my system causeing it. but i'm at a loss to find out as far as the pc version of tanx the sound comes out garbled when i use it and i've deleted and redownloaded it several times allways the same garbled sound maybe a soundcard driver incompatabilty i don't know but i like the browser ver. better anyway. i have another idea i'm gonna check into but if anyone has a suggestion it would be appreciated
Do you get pop-ups at times when you are not using FoD at all? You might have some spyware software installed, disguised as something like a buddy or internet toolbar. If there are no ads in the game I would like to believe that it is not the game causing the problem (although I don't play Tanx or use the web-browser version of the games). Some types of spyware are triggered by what is happening on your PC, and maybe Tanx gets it going. Try searching with Google or Yahoo for "New York Hotels" and see if a subject related pop-up appears. If so, that's a sure sign of a "pest" program running on your PC.

What OS (eg Win XP) do you use, and also which spyware remover?
i am running win 98 se and my ad ware remover is yahoo's that came with my dsl package. i'm convinced it is a hidden program doing it but can't find it. i keep my system cleaned out as best i can no toolbars and stuff but i'm only human and something got by me i'm assumeing thinking of downloading a popup stoper and see if it can point to where it is comeing from. sence other subed people i've talked to arn't having popups i don't think it is fly or die's fault it's something on my puter just have to find it and KILL it.......lol
My first advice is to use a higher quality spyware program (I don't know how good Yahoo's package really is). Go to
http://www.download.com
and search for Ad-aware (Lavasoft). Update the latest files and run a full system scan. It's free to use, but you have to check for updates and start scans manually. You can pay for the luxury of running it as another background task, but I don't think it's necessary for you or most home users. Just remember to run regular scans, once every two or three weeks is enough.

Next question: Do you have an up to date anti-virus program? I have seen Norton find one of these programs on a relative's computer, but I don't have enough knowledge of the product to justify that you buy it. AVG supply a free but restricted anti-virus program, and I have been told it's pretty good if you don't want to pay. I use and prefer McAfee, but only because I know the product well. If you don't have anti-virus, get it YESTERDAY.
People who here is from Europe.Answer please.
Wat do the pop ups say and do u have a firewall this may help because i had pop ups it got rid of them 4 me :p

AJB B-)
got it thanks everybody, it was virous or one of 15, lol i've been running with out virous program for almost a year. sence my mcaffe subscription ran out, the sbc yahoo package had one in it that i didn't download cause i was gonna get mcaffe again but never did. and it has pop up program also, to have run so long without protection i've been lucky. only thing i've had is a secret program a hacker friend put on here for hackers to run into and it has gone off a few times. i don't fully understand what it is but i know my friend says most hackers don't want to run into it......lol
excuse my spelling was in a hurry and mc afee is what i used to have i knew i wasn't spelling it right but thanx again beppe and everyone else
My pleasure, and cheers OP for the hint that this may be outside FoD.
