Some people have a serious problem with etiquette.
Well, some people have serious problems with spelling, punctuation and grammar, but I think we'll start with etiquette. Here's a little quiz to demonstrate my point.
If your opponent says
'Hi'
to you, how do you respond?
A)
'Hello'
B)
'Hi there, how are you?'
C)
Say nothing
If your opponent says
'good luck'
to you, how do you respond?
A)
'You too'
B)
'Thanks, you too'
C)
Say nothing.
If you win the game, what do you do?
A)
Say 'gg' and offer to play again (if you have time).
B)
Say how unlucky they were and wish them better luck for next time.
C)
Leave without saying a word.
If you lose the game, what do you do?
A)
Say 'gg' and offer to play again.
B)
Congratulate your opponent on his/her skills and offer to play again.
C)
Swear at your opponent and vanish.
Are you mostly
A
's,
B
's or
C
's? Now, what about the person you just played. What were they?
Hopefully they were either an
A
or a
B
. If you were really unlucky, you've just played a
C
. And when you play a
C
, doesn't it really get on your chesticles?
Admittedly, we're never going to have everyone as
B
's. That's far too much to ask of people who have enough trouble stringing a coherent sentence together, let alone remembering to be polite. But, for my money, there are far too many
C
's around these parts, and I think we could all do something about it.
So, let's all try and be polite for a change, eh?
I'm sure many of you are already polite to your opponents, and long may you carry on being. But, should you come across someone who lacks those all-important social skills, let them know that they are being a bit of a twit and refuse to play them until they play nicely.
