My mouse has a ball but I don't have a problem with it.
I suppose you can't go wrong with an optical wireless mouse. :p

i got an optical but it doesnt seem to pick up speed that is sometimes needed i was thinkin of the staitionary one's with the rotating ball ???   cheers for the replie

Try changing your mouse sensitivity...

Start -> Control Panel -> Mouse -> Motion.
