Hi folks, I just wanted to mention something I find interesting and that is the conversion rate from Celsius to Fahrenheit. I'm Canadian and we used the Imperial system for many years but changed to Celsius in 1975 but many older Canadians, like my parents, still use the Imperial system and the Fahrenheit temperature scale. They know both systems. So, the conversion is simple. In the Imperial system, the freezing point is 0 degrees whereas in Celsius it's 32 degrees so when I change scales, I start at 32 plus or minus rather than zero. The conversaion rate is 1.8 so let's take 20 degrees Celsius. So 32 plus 20 times 1.8 or 32 plus 2 times 18 equals 32 plus 36 or 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Now let's try minus 20 degrees Celsius so 32 minus 20 times 1.8 or 32 minus 2 times 18. So 32 minus 36 equals minus 4 Fahrenheit. Now here's where it gets interesting. Lets take 40 degrees Celsius so 32 plus 40 times 1.8 or 32 plus 4 times 18 which is 32 plus 72 or 104 Fahrenheit. The minus 40 may surprise you though so 32 minus 40 times 1.8 or 32 minus 4 times 18 equals 32 minus 72 or minus 40 Fahrenheit. Minus 40 Celsius equals minus 40 Fahrenheit. Anyone else find that interesting?
