why have a problem with people who cheat or run the clock out and who have high ratings but are beat by much lower players....they only cheat themnselves besides who comes to this site and plays go and wants a high rating....isnt it the point to have a good game with a close opponent...the rating on this site has nothing to do with the classic kyu or dan system of ranking so who cares...play and enjoy

your right it does not matter if someone cheats because they are only cheating themselves if they cheat.The only thing that maters is if you played a good game and and try your hardest to win.rank don't matter you can still beat an advanced player if your an novice.:)
There needs to be a way to measure and compare 'strength' accurately...Like for example some 'strong' players don't like to 'dull' their 'blade' by playing much weaker opponents. So a rating system is needed. Otherwise, you might as well play as a guest. No?
