Cheaters becoming more frequent
more and more people are starting to cheat, and it is very annoying, even if you beat them, it is a complete waste of time.
You can always report them, as they are technically breaking the rules of conduct... Though apparently this won't make any difference because I know for a fact that o-ellinos has been reported on multiple occasions and is still around doing the same stuff...

In all honesty there are only two real solutions:

1. Just let them have the win. If they are resorting to such tactics than clearly they have lost the game. Rating is just a number and over-inflated ranks are obvious to anyone with any real skill. If they feel they need to cheat to make that number better, just let them. They aren't really learning anything by doing this and you can rest easy knowing you are the better player.

2. The second and far less practical option is to create a forum page on here where we can post any cheaters so that players know to avoid them. This would require screenshots to prevent any kind of false-accusations (which would probably have to be done through a third-party image hosting site such as photobucket.com etc), as well as diligent upkeep of the forum post (adding the person every time you see someone cheat). It's not the greatest working system, but its really the only options we have until the developers correct the pass/reject flaw (which has been around for a long time now and been addressed quite a few times here in the forums, so I don't think it's going to change any time in the near future).
Any of you ever thought about applying for a moderator position in Go?

OP
I will help you if you give me a chance too prove myself, I won't let you down. I still have too learn the game but I'm a fast learner, so I'll get right on it!... in the meantime I will go there and report abuse, or record cheaters, Thanks Op.

Regards, Darren

or you can reject and keep playing to they admit their loss
To my mind, the reporting won't help because it is neccessary to see the whole situation while this is happening, plus understand the go game, too. I wonder if moderators can find a record of those matches when the rule abuse was done, so everything (including game itself, players' actions, chat) would be recorded on it - taking a look at the service record by the end of the game or checking chat messages wouldn't help here. Otherwise - players need to find a way how to act in similar situations themselves...
Although it's not really good, players need to "cheat back". Basically you need to do what your cheating opponent does: put stones on his big territories if he puts his own on yours, reject his marked stones (but first make sure that you will have enough points to win with all his stones being alive) if he does the same, another good advice to my mind is building eyes if there is no move that gives you points (so the opponent won't get the chance to put more of his stones which he won't accept as dead later). Well, in the end it must lead to your domination, since you formerly had much bigger territories which must provide you the victory.
Another way to fight with them with help of moderators is recording the game on videocamera, and then showing it to moderator (might be the most tough but the most effective one at the same time - this player will not just lose the game if you simply do what he does, but will get punished accordingly by FlyOrDie's moderation team). There are also some programs that allow you to record the monitor's screen but I doubt I have a right to advertise them here.
Hope this post helps to those go players who play fair and respect the game. Good luck!
I have been going in Go! for a few days, and there is always people cheating. Now I know what too look for, and I will watch it everyday too catch cheaters in action!. Now that I understand the game it is much easier too catch those people. I will spend my time in GO!, I see more cheating in there than any place else, and it's getting worse everyday. I will do everything I can too catch most cheaters etc... I'm online everyday and playing in FOD games so I will be in there a lot.

Regards, Darren the cheater chaser :).
@TCA NightWalker: I personally think that the more respectful solution (in terms of respect for the game) would be to abandon the game knowing who won... Two wrongs don't make a right. What you are suggesting is basically turning it into a battle of patience and seeing who will continue cheating the longest or who can make it so that the other player's clock runs out first. I'm sure there are many possible scenarios that could be played out in this way but that is not the essence of the game of go (even blitz games usually aren't played in this manner). Trying to continue battling for the win with someone who has already stated their intentions to cheat to gain the win is a pointless endeavor. Eventually one side will decide that the win simply isn't worth the time and energy wasted or someone's clock will run out. That being the case, is it not more mature to simply acknowledge the final board position for what it was and let them have the rating that they so desperately desire?

I also believe that you should make an attempt to report anyone who cheats, but as some players seem to get away with it after having been reported in the past I think that the above method is the best course of action when dealing with someone who has already been reported in the past.

As far as reporting goes, there's no real need to go about recording the game. Simple screenshots can suffice, though I suppose it could be difficult to show that what you claim happened did happen in the order you say... I think that once an accusation is made the moderators can go back and look at the game record (which does show the stones that were marked and when they were rejected etc), so maybe just including a screenshot showing the time/date and players involved is sufficient, but honestly I do not know that this is the case. In the past I have had no difficulty reporting people using screenshots, so presumably they have some means of verifying the accuracy of them.
I agree that Go game must be higher than that, but someone has to stop this kind of behaviour. Once we let cheater win in his style we give him sort of motivation to continiue. Of course it's moderators' duty to prevent further cheating and players' duty to help them with this, but I'm afraid that what you described in the latest post might be true (about the Screenshots). Yes, you may take a SS and I am sure they have ways to prove that it's real, but is there really a way to prove that situation described by you is what really happened? - that's the question. What I try to say is that SS is static - yes you can photo the moment when he marked your undead stones or when you marked all of his correctly or when he rejected your marked stones, but this kind of SS can be done in every game and they can have completely different context... But anyway, I agree fighting back isn't the best advice, but what if it is for now? We just need to remember that it's done for others' sake, too.
Well, since I offered another decision - I think it's up to me to do it. I will be spending some time either playing or sitting in go lobby and if you find someone cheating - please call me and I am sure I can help.
With all the respect,
TCA NightWalker
