From my flyordie ranking50 can i tel wat my official Go ranking is?
So if i'm a solid 50 on fly or die, how many kyo am i? is there any way to gauge it? or guestimate?
because of the wide range of players and unorthodox rating system, it is really hard to convert a flyordie ranking to the standard kyu/dan system. Basically there is a way to work around the system by playing only 0's (new players to the game) and continuously rank up (some players are actually notorious for doing this here). Because of this, you can't really say that someone who has a rating of 50 actually deserves it because they are at/above/around a specific strength.
there is no correlation between FOD ranks and the real world. Some people deliberately distort their ranks - either to get unrealistically high or low rankings. Plus, many people only play on 15x15 or smaller boards, and real go ranks are largely determined on 19x19.
Well, its kind of hard to say that just because it is on a 15x15 most of the time, that that is why the ratings are distorted. I'm fairly sure that a 10kyu on a 19x19 will fair about as well on a 15x15 unless they are just blindly playing josekis and not taking the global position into account (in which case, should they really be called a 10kyu?). I may just be arguing semantics, but I felt this needed adding, sorry. I agree on all the other points though. There are several people who purposely try to maintain a low rank for "sandbagging" purposes, and that distorts the rating system as well.
sandbagging is basically when a stronger player intentionally loses games in order to have a low ranking (to appear to be a weaker player).
How does one go about getting a KYU score? Is there an online site to play Go that ranks players in the KYU system?
I'm not sure if I will get in trouble for responding to this, as technically I'm advertising other go servers, but hopefully it won't be an issue.

There are several go servers that use the kyu/dan ranking system, though how they determine their ratings differ. www.gokgs.com is one of the more popular english clients, but there are several others including IGS, OroBaduk/WBaduk, and TygemBaduk to list some of the most popular English supported clients. These however typically require you to install a client to play on them, so they may not work for all operating systems (I think I have heard that Tygem won't work on some Macs, but I'm honestly not sure of the specifics. I'm running windows and don't have any similar problems).
Thanks. Hope no harm done. I like it here but its nice to have options.: )
