Dead stone marking flaw
At the end of the game why can safe figures be selected to be dead stones? I thought my opponent had selected none of my stones as dead but instead he had selected all of them even though they should've been alive. And because all my stones were shaded out I thought nothing had been selected. So instead of winning the game by over 80 points I lost by two.
I am just learning the game and am trying to determine what exactly defines a "dead stone". When the system asked me to mark my opponenets dead stones I marked them all because I figured the software would prevent marking the wrong ones. The end game is an unclear area for me. Is there a place on the website where I can read about it and the applicable terminology?
Dead stones are stones that cannot live or cannot have two eyes, pretty much. For example, if player A has some stones inside of player B's territory, and A's stones can't make two eyes, then those stones would be considered dead, and they would count towards B's score at the end of the game.
As to why you can mark safe groups dead in FOD, is because the computer can't do it for you, so you have to manually select each dead stone(s). This can be a bit troublesome at times, since some players try to waste time, but be patient and they'll give up eventually. ^^
