soolaa quits!!! flyordie gets ratings sort!!
A player called soolaa quits after 5 ends, he is winning 6-2 and I lose 18 points on my rating. How is that fair??

Come on flyordie people get it sorted!

I just tried it. After 1 end I was 6-0 but my rating didn't change. I don't get it?

Surely, if someone quits before the end, I shouldn't lose points on my ratings. How is that possible fair?
I'll just have to play the games to my advantage then.
I'll tell you this one more time: most people don't like playing 10 ends - it takes too long.

Agree with your opponent how many ends you will play when the game starts.

The ranks count based on each end, so whether you play 2 or 10 it doesn't make a difference.
"he is winning 6-2 and I lose 18 points on my rating"

What is unfair about this exactly?
You loose the match, you loose points. I think it is fair.

OP
There were still five ends to play.

If he had won the match 6-2 then fair play but with five ends still to play I could still win.
If there were 5 ends remaining, you would have won the match, as you are the winner of all remaining ends 1-0, if your opponent quits.

This obviously does not apply if you have not set the number of ends for the match before the start.

You have to "subscribe" to be able to set the ends per match, otherwise your opponent can stay as many (or few) ends as he wants.
Hey Operator, I was thinking that with REAL Curling strategy, if you DONT have the Hammer in an End and your opponent only gets 1 Point, technically you shouldnt lose Rating points.

Its because in the real game, if you can hold your opponent only 1 and get the Hammer back, that is a good strategy in real life.
Yep, that's one of the major flaws of this game. I'm also wondering when it will be corrected.

Also - it's "lose".
I was 7-0 after two ends when the other player left and my rating only went up by one, how does that work?
Stop worrying so much about your ratings - it's just a stupid number.

Play the game, have fun making great shots and don't worry about what your ranking is.
you dont have to subscribe to set the number of ends in a match. i am a non-subscriber and i can set the ends. if u have played the game for a long time and u have 4 dots in ur player info then u can set ends
There has been for a long while issues with the rating system in curling. Being able to set the number of ends sorted out a big deal of them. For that I am grateful.

Still there are issues. The one bugging me the most, is how it is still possible to have 500+ rating points and hold the crown, without ever playing anyone but 0rates. It's frustrating for those of us who actually are playing the biggest rates we can find, and no matter how good one does it's impossible for any of the
actually good
players to gain the crown. It takes away alot of my inspiration to keep playing. I'm competitive by nature, and having held the crown before, I'd like a fair chance to win it back...

Secondly, even with presetting the amount of ends, players can still profit from quitting. Especially in the last end. With an open hit to score multiples with hammer, opponent quits, and all I get is the single. This is bugging. It should never be profitable to quit before the game is over.

Suggestions:
1. Let there be no rating changes when players are more than 150 points apart.

2. When opponent quits during an end, one should score 4 when whit hammer, and 2 or more when without hammer.

These are in my opinion the biggest issues that needs solving. There are still a few other minor things that could need revision, but first things first, eh?
!! DROP !! the rating system and go by win and loss (simple) more wins the better you are the less wins then get better
bakkenboy: that's a stupid idea - then everyone would just play new members with ranks of 0 to make sure they win lots of ends/matches

The rating system is actually smart, but I agree there could be tweaks, especially regarding experienced players beating newbies with ranks below 20.

But, at the end of the day, if some guy wants to waste a few hours trying to cheat his way to a pretend "crown" in an online game, that's pretty sad.
as it is now the high ranks wont play the low ranks because they loose to many ratings . make it win lose only is fare for every one
Great suggestions Snella!

I also just realized that KILLER..our "champion" only plays 0 rated player...its absolutely pathetic!
So as you say:

problem 1: "high ranks wont play the low ranks"
problem 2: "our "champion" only plays 0 rated player"

OP
"1. Let there be no rating changes when players are more than 150 points apart."

There is no rating change if the difference is above ~700 or so.
Lowering this limit would have the effect of keeping everyone's rating at a lower level than currently, but makes no difference in the problem you mention.

If you play a lower rated player, you risk a big loss in points when defeated, and you hardly gain any points by winning.

My suggestion is to play with as many different players as possible, as the rating system will reflect your skill better that way.

(an extreme example: there are two players who only play against each other. the sum of their ratings will not change, so if they are at the same level, their individual rating will not change either on the long run. The same stands for 3 players, 4 players, etc.)

"2. When opponent quits during an end, one should score 4 when whit hammer, and 2 or more when without hammer."

There are many topics about this issue, where it is explained why it won't work. You are only looking at it from a single point of view, but there are other issues that need to be taken into consideration.

OP
"2. When opponent quits during an end, one should score 4 when whit hammer, and 2 or more when without hammer."

When you have set the amount of ends prior to the start of the game, I think the above idea is great. It will deter a player from quitting during the last end of the match if about to give up a big end.
