VIRUS
While I was playing checkers, my opponent stated he was sending me a virus so that he could monitor my computer. What he was saying sounded very real. Is it possible to send a virus in this way?
no,it is not. its possible to get troyan virus or some kind of worm,if you click on links he sends you
Don't worry about it. He is purely trying to "scare" you, he can't put a virus onto your computer just because you're his opponent in an online game :)
Only an excellent hacker could do this, by tracing your IP address etc etc.

Sounds to me though this kid was trying to scare you. Don't worry.
the best thing to do is to just minimize the talking because there are many jealous people so if you dont get deep into conversations then there will be no fights or any threats such as the one your talking about.

Thank you for your assurances. I feel better. He didn't send a link ( I would never open) but I thought he could hack with the IP address. I beat him miserably in the 1st 2 games and then on the third he must have used a program to beat me. Seemed very odd. He said" your anti virus software is pretty weak and I'm going to send that picture to all your contacts etc." Normally, I would have assumed it was pretty generic talk. I shut that laptop down and am using my other.

>your anti virus software is pretty weak

That sounds like he couldn't actually tell you what virus scanner you have? Out of interest what is it (just so you can be reassured about it)

Don't get to the point where you're worried about going on your other laptop. I think any decent "hacker" would spend their time doing other things apart from playing FOD snooker and in fact, any excellent hacker won't advertise that they are one.

If you still have doubts post a topic in the technical section of the forum detailing your anti virus/firewall/spyware software etc. or problems you are having and someone will try and help :p

Oh and pretending to be some kind of hacker in an online chat room/msn messenger to scare people is one of the oldest tricks in the book, I've come across it countless times with no negative effects coming from it.
>any excellent hacker won't advertise that they are one.

Some people like feeling as if they have power over people, including some who actually do. However, I agree that it's not likely here.
Ive heard of that thing happening in a game a few months ago ,but let me assure you its just scare tactics to make you leave yr game so he/she can get easy points. Therefore is is unsportsmanlike and any threats like that will result in loss of points and or a ban for that particular plyer.

Im sry you have to put up with that behavior and let me assure you the moderators are doing our up most to enable a fair & clean gaming site for all. regards Grant
