and how do you build things like a pub?  unless you have a boat (which costs 5 mil silvers plus taxes), you don't have to worry about that yet.  there are foundations we are slowly uncovering on a second island, that allow us to build buildings on them (where there were previously buildings before the monsters took over that island).  this morning, the only unfinished (available) building was finished... so until we unearth another foundation (which will likely be about 2 weeks away), no one will be able to build any building stones.
