server problems, rating
Hi, my name is Osborne. I 'm from Belgium.
My problem is the following : sometimes i get disconnected from the server while playing. When i reconnect later i 've lost the points for the game and my rating goes down. I don't think this is a fair system. The rating points and the competitive element are one of the reasons why i enjoy your website. Is there a solution for my problem?
I would be very greatfull.

Best regards,

Osborne
This is a very well-stated and politely written question, one which I have an issue with myself, though not too often.

I think the problem might be how would FOD distinguish between a true server disconnect as opposed to a player just disconnecting him/herself because he/she was losing?

I am curious to see what some of the other players on here think about this and I eagerly await replies. :)

I think a time limit system would work, but would be hard to implement into the game, say after a disconnect you have x minutes/seconds to reconnect and continue the game. It would be nice but I don't know how complicated it would be to code, just saying you disconnect and shouldn't lose points wouldn't work because a lot of people would just disconnect if they were losing thus not losing any points after the "disconnect".
Hmmm I have a problem with the time limit system that has been suggested a few times (personally I would love a system like that and would be glad if someone suggested a way around the problem I have :p)

After you get disconnected from the game, it's easy to say you have x amount of time to reconnect..

but what about the other person who you was playing? If you reconnected they may have already begun another game, meaning you cannot actually continue to play the match.

If the opposing player was forced to stay at the table after you had been disconnected for a certain time limit (a solution to the previous problem) whats to stop them exiting the game manually so they don't have to continue playing?

I just thought of these problems on the spur of the moment and can't quickly think of a solution..... and yes you will make me feel like an idiot if the solution is simple so fire away ;\ :p
Of course the staying at the table waiting for your opponent to return would be optional and if they chose to leave neither party would gain/lose points, sort of an ultimatum if you will; a: stay and continue game when opponent returns; or b: leave and cut even in the point distribution; or c: opponent doesn't return in x amount of time and you get the winning points. Like I said I think this would be difficult to put into the game but would be a nice addition.
Hmm okay more problems to answer :D

Could this system potentially be flawed by the fact if someone is D/C every 5 minutes or so (Due to a poor connection between FOD and the host's computer or whatever) it could lead to a snooker game that could potentially be very long.

I mean imagine a reconnection limit of 2-3 mins and a player d/c every 3-5 mins, not a pretty game indeed :p
I was thinking somewhere along the lines 1-2 minutes for allowed time to return maybe even less into the seconds range, this way it would allow more than enough time to return and if they disconnected on purpose why would the return only to lose anyway?
Cripes do you talk to yerself too?
FOD has serious issues right now with the Server.
Leave it at that.
Everyone has this problem and I can tell you why they have the problem and how to fix it if you wont to know.
Yes , i'm all ears.Go ahead.

Best regards,

Osborne
