That was always my argument - if you were driving faster then you wouldn't have been there in the first place! Truth - it's not speeding which kills, but accidents. I know many people who like me have never been killed because we were driving fast ;)
There are always a bunch of people who disagree though, the PC people who think that speeding
causes
accidents. It's not obvious to them. Btw your link didn't work, I had to search to find the clip.
I fully believe in a lot of cases speeding is the sole cause of accidents. Slower cars are easier to control.
Especially on surfaces such as ice, and in conditions such as fog. You can say accidents are the cause, but you can also say it was speed that caused those accidents. But then again you could say it was the drivers fault for causing the accident. etc. etc. It's the chicken and the egg scenario.
Driver mistake, mechanical problems, other vehicles or people, road conditions and "acts of God" may all cause or contribute to the cause of accidents. Speed is always under the control of the driver (or in rare cases, mechanic malfunction) - any accident caused because of a vehicle's speed (e.g. taking a corner too fast) is therefore because of the misjudgment of the driver. Speed only affects the ability to control the car after losing control, as well as increasing the effects of impact in the event of a collision. If you drive "within road conditions" - that is you take into account weather, other traffic, pedestrians, the vehicle you are driving, road conditions and generally drive to what you can see, then speed does not become a dangerous factor.

OK then Stupid People cause accidents. And it so happens alot of stupid people also speed. Snipe

i think they argument people are saying about speeding is... apparently if u hit someone at 30 Mph they have a better chance of surviving than at 40 Mph... hence resedential speed limits, but to be honest.. on a motorway have a crash at 70 Mph or 100 Mph i dont think it makes much difference, the Germans got it right :| :D
Nothing wrong with speeding if you can control the car. Many who speed though cannot, doing 60mph in a 40mph and not realising cars are stopped ahead till too late, swerving to avoid them and killing a motor cyclist obeying the limit in the opposite direction is not smart nor amusing. Though in England it only equates to a £2500 fine and driving ban, so maybe its not so bad as I thought. KmS (The video did amuse me, the debate since is beginning not to)
I think possibly one of the most frightening times of my life was when I was being driven down a 40mph road at 147mph......scary. Oh yeah that and when Dave left :(
