Film Club 2006
I always like to watch a good film, but how do you know they are good? Why don't you share your experiences with us here.

What defines "good"? I don't think it's Hollywood's special effects or a good looking crew, but a good storyline which is acted and filmed in a competent manner.
Flight Plan
 is example of a
bad
 film, as the story had more holes in it than a sponge. Until seeing
The Constant Gardener
 I felt that I hadn't wathced a good film for a long time. Critics have back me up on this by suggesting that 2005 wasn't a year for great films.

So go ahead, share your experiences - not just with a title, but also a reason why you like a film. Maybe I could suggest no spoilers though?
Munich is a great movie. In fact i had given up on movies until i saw this recently. however biased it may be it tends to have the shock factor necessary to get your hear thudding and wanting more. Great movie people
9/10
Lord Of War
 (Nick Cage)

I rented this last night as a "boy flick" because my wife was busy studying. It's a shame, because even she recognised that she would have enjoyed it. We were both expecting it to be a violent film based on hypocracy, so out came the beers and up go the feet waiting for a blood-fest.

Far from it - the film itself was a moral depiction of the arms trade and the suffering it can bring, not just to the victims but also to the people involved in the trade itself. Whilst the story and the characters were fictional, chosen to show a wide range of human personalities, the events themselves are historically correct. Cage narrates with a bleak humour that breaks the mournful nature of the film, keeping it from becoming just a dull documentry. It's not an uplifting film, nor did it make me depressed (which I felt should have been the case). There are a couple of "messy" bits of violence, but overall it's about the story rather than a show of special effects.

It's not a film for everyone, but if you think you might be interested in seeing how poor countries in Africa arm themselves, what became of Russian stockpiles after the cold war or just a neat Nicholas Cage flick, then I would recommend it.
my favorite film:CONAIR,got action and romance.
I also like goal,becasue it Newcastle FC.
oh...and i forgot Mille,many of you may not have heard of that,an Indian film,but got everything in it,action,drama,romance,and a bit of a horror:)
I hate the movie
Flight Plan
. What did you think of
Hostel
?
Yeah, flight Plan was awful despite getting a good review. I haven't seen Hostel, waiting for it to come out on DVD.

Corpse Bride
 was a good movie, thought I was going to hate it but was pleasantly suprised. Not one to watch with the lads, but as a chick flick or for families it's good viewing.
Okay then FoD, how about "As a film to watch with a girl" X-(
definately along came polly :) great for when the girlfriends over :)
one film iv always liked is "family man" with nick cage . although it a light hearted drama/comedy . it make you wonder what your life would be like if you made different choices earlier in your life .
   my all time favourite has to be "goodfellas" tho . sheer class,
Should the Woking match be called off this weekend (which is quite likely) I'll be seeing Final Destination 3. Saw the second in the series last week and while it wasn't great, it was watchable.
I was thinking in terms of recent releases. Princess Bride is always a laugh though :)
Watch this please FACES OF DEATH series. This will touch your heart, if you have a heart.....documentary of real dead people dying on camera, my oscar choice ty.

nah stop being sensitive

Owl is a hoot. Maybe he is not the normal person you are used to but he did stay on topic. I don't see anything that he posted that is worthy of a ban.

If he had posted the actual photos of the dead people photos from the films he mentioned then that would be worthy of ban. But he didn't do that. You're being sensitive.
Actually Gdawg, by films I meant "films", not "documentaries" or "collections of violent moments caught on camera". Like yourself though, I am not offended. After a friend brought back the most grotesque video back from the Amsterdam Horror Festival in 80s showing people dying in various way, not much shocks me now.

Yep today's society is more exposed to violence in the media and the more we see the violence the more we will get used to it. lot of the things now would be hard to fathom some 50 years ago. how the times hav changed.

For the films i prefer the Wedding Crashers. very funny
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

great movie for a quiet night in but i guess you'll have to wait for it on dvd as i think this is gonna be in cinemas for a long time yet.

storyline 8/10
shock factor 10/10 :)

Like girls legs?

What we need is a good samurai film...

I wonder if there is a Harold and Kumar 3 :D that would be great to watch and also Fast and Furious 3.

From what I hear there is only one Harold Kumar film so far.
in no particular order but still my favs:-

monty pythons life of brian (hysterical)

pitch black (great concept, and filming)

jaws (still cant get in the sea)

donnie darko (strangely compelling)

....and i'll finish with a contraversial one

blair witch project (best ending ever)
Here's where we are going for our FoD honeymoon (still waiting on the tickets OP)...

and before you both go riding off into your honeymoon, beppe must not forget his favorite method of travel....

War of the Worlds was an entertaining movie. It could have been better though, if they had the aliens fight hand to hand combat with the U.S. marines. That would have been interesting. I would have liked to see what the aliens use for their hand weapons, if they had any.

War Of the Worlds was a great movie :) best i seen in the past few years. i like what they did with the storyline and graphics are supurb. id give it a 10 outta 10 :)

~braves
I saw War of the Worlds.

Storyline = 9/10

Acting = 9/10

Special Effects = 10/10

Impact = 10/10

Overall = 9.5 /10

I didn't really like War of the Worlds, don't really understand why not because I usuallly love films like that.

Can anyone tell the difference between Green Street/The Football Factory? I've seen Green Street and loved it. Is The Football Factory as good, or better, or worse?
Wouldn't it stray too far from the book if there was a big alien hand to hand fight scene?
>>>Wouldn't it stray too far from the book if there was a big alien hand to hand fight scene?

I don't know m8. I never read the original book so I'm not too familiar with the original story. I would have liked to see an infantry fight scene between the aliens and the human soldiers, if not in the movie itself, maybe in the DVD special deleted scenes, as a part to enhance the overall DVD product.

Another thing I would have liked to have seen are the alien invasion scenes that were going on from other parts of the world, like in Asia, Europe, Africa and such. At least in Independence Day there were scenes that depicted other areas of the globe in which the human forces engaged in aerial battles against the aliens.
