but why on old comps. you dont need to hold alt ? :O i never understood :(

You don't need to press "ctrl", but if you press "Alt" + "Print Scrn" you will capture the active window only.

to take a scren shot you must hold 

ctrl

 and press 

prt scr

paste it in 

Paint

 to see it or any other place you decide to put the picture ..
