Is it now common knowledge that there is a way to knock center guards out the back without being penalized? I’ve had it happen three different times in the last few days. My first and second center guards were barely knocked directly back and out enough they disappeared, but were not replaced.

It's a SYSTEM glitch and any respectable player will then throw their next rock away to make up for it. Not all players are honest though.
It had happened to me before too, as if ticking wasn't easy enough already. When would they put the "no tick rule" in play, like real curling competition recently did?
