shouldn't it be that when u challenge someone the challenge window that pops up is the settings *you* applied, not the settings the opponent wants...this way you don't have to negotiate settings? and the settings that u want get applied when u challenge someone, if they don't like the settings then they challenge u back with their own settings, and u can see what settings they want next to their name, it's more simple this way and i think that's how people think it's supposed to work i got confused myself that way at first
No, it's the other way round: when you challenge someone, you have supposedly accepted his/her setting, so it is their setting that is applied. If you do not want to play on that size, simply challenge another player, who has the size you prefer, or wait for someone to challenge you. OP
well...the thing that results from this is that people have to negotiate settings now which complicates the matchmaking process, and some people don't understand english or otherwise they're either too lazy to respond to negotiation or don't want to, i think it's simpler the other way around tbh
also, because of this the "any" option also becomes sort of confusing because the only thing it does is allow people to challenge with any boardsize they want to challenge you with **or** you accepting any boardsize they have otherwise it reverts to default settings...this is all fine because this is what the "any" setting is supposed to do...but what if you wanted to apply your settings, then it's just like using the "any" setting because you'd have to accept whatever the opponent wants anyway if you challenge them, the only way you could get them to accept your settings is if you got them to challenge you, this complicates the process
By selecting a specific board size (say 19) you indicate that your intention is to play a game on a 19x19 board. If another player selects say board size 13 then his/her intentions is to play a game on a 13x13 board. On the other way around: (s)he's got NO intention of playing on a 19x19 board. So if you challenged him/her applying your setting of size 19 then you would actually harass him/her as (s)he had clearly stated his/her intention of not playing size 19. The confusion might be if anyone's setting is really an intention or just a preference. If you prefer to play size 19 and the other player prefers to play size 13 but any or both of you are willing to play some other size then you will have to negotiate it, there is no automatic resolution to this. You might end up with size 15, for instance, which setting none of you implied.
when i click that 'sun' icon, chat and game settings i don't get that option i only get options about mute players (chat) and about simple figure and show last move (game)
