New feature: Best-Of Challenge
Hi everyone,

THE ISSUE

One of my favourite types of play in pool,
although this could apply to most of the 2-player games on FlyOrDie
is a 'best of' match. You know, best of 3, 5, 7 - any number, so long as it is
odd
.

But many times it seems that some players who initially commit to playing the best of, say, 5 games, make an excuse and don't continue as agreed.

I think that an excellent new feature, to improve everyone's enjoyment, would be a
'Best-of Challenge'
.

THE IDEA -
BEST OF
 CHALLENGE

The
Challenge
button is given a little drop-down arrow on the right hand side. Clicking the main part of the button causes a regular, single game challenge to be sent. However, clicking on the drop-down arrow allows you to select a 'best of' option for a specified number of games. You select how many games should be in the 'best of' match, and the challenge is sent.

When players receive a 'best of' match challenge, they're notified
"You are being challenged to a 'best of 5' match by:"
 - whoever. This would simplify the process of agreeing to a 'best of' match.

Most importantly: If a player abandons a match, ratings are changed as though the whole match was played out.

Example:
1. P1 and P2 agree to a 'best of 5' match.
2. P1 wins the first two matches (2-0).
3. P2 decides s/he doesn't want to continue, and abandons the match.
4. P1 is awarded an extra win, as if they had won the deciding match (3-0).

I feel this would avoid arguments developing over agreements to play multiple games.

I'm fairly new to FlyOrDie, so I hope I'm not repeating ideas that have already been discussed.

Thanks for listening!

The idea has been discussed but not necessarily in as much detail as you have given :p Although the "re-connect" feature that has been debated would need to be implemented before we can start having compulsory multi frame matches in my opinion.

The only problems I have with this system is that it makes cheating easier - If like you said, a player abandons the match and the opposing player gets the winning points from the remaining matches, people giving others free wins would be easier as they could claim to be disconnected in a 7 frame match after 20 seconds.

I wouldn't use the feature if it ws available purely because I can never guarentee I can play a 5 frame match to the end, I often find myself abandoning a game because of other commitments. But that's just a personal view of mine, many other people have wanted a system like this for a while ;)
Yeah its been discussed LOADS, at one point it was every other topic. But few players have given an example of how it could be done like you, we are still waiting for fod to listen...
Hi Chris, Rise,

I bow to your superior knowledge of the history and problems associated with a system like this.

You've convinced me: please consider the idea withdrawn.

Thanks!

I think you've misread what we've said, neither me or Rise wanted you to withdraw the idea :p

If it can be done correctly I'm all for it and I know a lot of other people want this sort of system put in place too. You've given the most plausable way to do it (From the explanantions I've seen), what we don't know however is if FOD is even considering a system such as the one you've explained.

It's been discussed a lot but by no means that doesn't mean that people like you can't offer explanations that would improve the idea. I'm actually impressed by the thought you've put in, saying exactly how something like this could work :)
First time in 4-5 yrs that a IDEA was offered up for the way to keep Runners in check.I'm sure FOD management has concidered every option so far, guess it's just not Feasable at this time.
Good Plan tho,Composer.
