The Football Chillout 2006/2007 Season : News, Results, Gossip N Much More
Let's continue Henry's thread for the 2006/2007 season.

As a Man Utd fan, I want to start by talking about Ruud. It's a shame to lose him, but let's hope that we got a good price for him. I reckon that Rossi, Smith and Ole are good enough back-up for Rooney and Saha, but what do you people think? Fingers crossed that the Carrick deal works out, and let's hope that they add a couple more good players to the squad.

I reckon that Bellamy is a good addition for Liverpool, will give them more of a fighting spirit than in recent years. Duff to Newcastle for 5mil was the big suprise for me - I would have expected Man U or any other big side to have topped that bid, but maybe Chelsea didn't want him to go to a serious league rival.

Chelsea for the league again? If Ballack adjusts well, and I think he will, then they are going to be even harder to beat this season. I think that Liverpool will be the main challengers this season, though if Utd get a good start then they could still win the league. Arsenal and Spurs complete my top 5 predictions. I expect Newcastle and Man City to be leading the rest.

Reading, Sheffield and Villa fill my bottom three. I would expect Portsmouth, Watford and Charlton to be near the bottom of the table, maybe Fulham as well.
I must say that in recent years I've been tiring quite a lot of internationals. The qualifiers drag on a ridiculous amount and we're always playing the same sort of teams. I'd love a global qualifying system, which would make things far more interesting.

Woking in action this Saturday against another form side in Dagenham & Redbridge, who sit near the top of the table. Hopefully an entertaining game.
tevez and mascherano to west ham !! what a joke !!!
The bigger joke... why did Man U not strengthen their squad? What about Senna, Tevez and Mascherano? I don't think Carrick is going to be enough, and I really don't get why he let Rossi go!
Most corrupt transfer in years. West Ham clearly don't own the players, this company MSI still do and using them as a holding point. From various quotes it's clear they'll only be there a season.

Woking have turned things around :)

Cockerill has got the hint and gone 4-4-2 - the result? A 3-0 rout over Kidderminster on Monday followed by a 3-2 win at Forest Green last night. Things are looking brighter :)

England 9 Andorra 0 btw
on that point tevez and mascherano both ahve 35 million release clauses so its a win -win situation for west ham init because when ashton n tevez get workin well there bound to go in europe in my opinion and there gunna earn 25 mill + from that plus if they leave 70 mil for both players :| plus a takeover west ham have go a bright future
West Ham are unlikely to have bought the rights to the players. They are probably just paying some of their wages and putting them in the shop window for MSI.
Tevez played good y'day, but still outclass by brazil.
Lets get back to the premiership..i mean whats the pointof pointless internationals?,wev'e just had the world cup ,we look forward to the premiership season, then its has a break after three games, then its cricket scores allover the place,Germany 13?..even Scotland scored 6!.are we living in the real world?..now come on,scrap these pointless games and let United get on with the roll we are on lol
Ferguson used to scream and throw things at his players when they played badly - it didn't work for him, eh? ;)
i'd personally like to see the seeding of international groups scrapped,or at least seed the top8 then put the rest into the hat.

the way it is at present its always going to be the same teams going through to major tournaments with the exception of 1 or 2 changing from time to time.

the same goes for the champions league.

its like the odds are stacked against the little man, while the big teams get richer
might be better to let all the so called "no chance teams"..playing each other in qualifying groups..and a few get through to the finals..as for the little man..if they are good enough, they are big enough..
This thread has slipped a bit!

Tonight is the local derby - Woking v Aldershot. And all you people can watch the game live on SKY :)

We have a pretty terrible record against the Shots, never beating them in the Conference. A home defeat and a 1-1 draw at their place was the story last season. We also have a terrible record on SKY.

Just to copy a few results from the Woking messageboard relating to our SKY record...

Hereford (2-1 defeat), Donnie (4-0 defeat), Yeovil (4-0 defeat), Aldershot Town (4-0 defeat), Grays (1-1 draw), Chester (2-1 defeat), Barnet (2-2 draw)

That's the league games of which there are more. A distinct lack of wins!

For those who may watch, look out for young Giuseppe Sole on the left wing - a bright star for the future who will go on to play at a much higher level. Oh, and he was 3 years above me at my school. ;)
We won 2-0. :)

Every single player superb. :)

This feels good. :)
Gotta take issue with a comment u made earlier beppe."I reckon that Bellamy would be a good buy for any team. As a Man Utd support I am quite cheesed off that Liverpool now have him"..you were joking right?
I agree with pokey, bellamy no ty :|

Fernando Torres yes please :p
I aint a man utd fan but i got to admit that performance tonight was unbelievable, even Fletcher played good(whats up with that?.)

I reckon that Bellamy would be a good buy for any team. As a Man Utd support I am quite cheesed off that Liverpool now have him ;)
Well we got just over 10m for RvD, I believe he was worth much more but given the situation other clubs knew they could get him cheaper.

Also we're after Senna from Villareal which should be a good addition to the squad and seems the Fernando Torres deal is supposedly back on, though I doubt he will leave Atletico Madrid this season. I wouldn't be too happy to be paying about 15m for Carrick as i think he is slightly overrated and when I see him play I don't believe he is worthy of Champions League quality football.

Chelsea I agree are going to clinch top spot, with Andriy Shevchenko and Ballack being signed then I cannot see how any other team is going to compare against them

Villa, Portsmouth and Sheffield United fill my bottom 3, feelings my end say that Reading are going to do an Ipswich from a few seasons ago
Carrick is over rated Beppe, i can't personally believe Man Utd have spent 18.6 million on a player that only played ok against Equador, i'm dissapointed personally.
I thought they was meant to be filling roy keanes boots, i don't think they will with this player.
I am skeptical at the mo, but i think theres a friendly next week so we'll all see then.
Also has anyone got a Watford season ticket?
I have and i can't wait till the new season starts!
I don't really support watford, but i live there.
I had to make the most of them being in the premiership again!! (Please stay up for more than one season lol.)
I agree that Carrick is over priced, but hopefully he's going to bring himself up to standard. I would have prefered that they bought established players - probably could have had Viera AND Senna for a lot less than 15mil.
Man Utd cruised to victory against FC Porto 3-1, despite having Rooney and Scholes sent off!!
Is it me but is Rooney on a roll on red crds?
He has a very agressive attitude in the game, but is class all the same.
as a blackburn fan i seriously hope blackburn will put on another good performanec for the season with the main additions of roberts n mccarthy i think this will be tough for defensive opposition as i believe roberts is the strongest in the prem with mccarthy who is a proven goalscorer at all levels.
and also hope for nelsen and khizanshvili 2 have another good defensive season.
i would also like 2 c neill stay as he is one of more consistent performers but id gladly see emerton leave as he is useless behind bentley and reid.
i believe chelsea will be unbeatable this season if ballack n shevchenko hit form striaght away.
my top 10 for season :
chelsea
arsenal
liverpool
man u
tottenham
blackburn
newcastle
everton
portsmouth
west ham
As a liverpool fan i hope the 5-0 defeat to mainz was just a very bad pre season off day for us and i can see us playing much better football than last season with the two wingers pennant and gonzalez in. I personally would not have taken the risk of signing both Bellamy and Pennant at once, one player with a suspect temperment is enough nevermind two brought in in one pre season. As for the premiership, Chelsea have such a stronger squad of players than the rest i cant see them not winning it. Gallas will be a big loss though, maybe leaving a bit of a defensive weakness if he isnt properly replaced.

I've set up a Yahoo Fantasy Football group for FlyOrDie... join up before the season starts and let's have a good competition!

Its good that he got off to a goalscoring start if he keeps that up and keeps his attitude in check i'll be as happy as anybody that he's signed. Pennant looked good to me saw alot of the ball and some of his deliveries were top class. The thing i love most about this time of year is all the transfer talk, who does everyone want to see signed for their club before the big kick off?
Gretna 1-5 Derry

Finally it looks like Ireland will hav a team a competitive european competition. And with Drogheda only 1 down from first leg we might hav 2
Football is back \o/

And aren't Sunderland doing badly :(

3 defeats, dwindling crowds, the optimism of the takeover slipping away. Quinn needs to get some good players in and fast, before we slide even further down the ladder.

On to my first club, Woking. After last season's disappointing league campaign was masked by an FA Trophy final run that got more credit than it deserves, as we only played teams in divisions below us all the way up to the final and then only turned up in the second half, 2-0 down already.

Manager Cockerill took the strange step of basically resigning all of last season's squad bar a few, notably Conference 2nd top scorer Justin Richards who went to Peterborough and hasn't been replaced, which is the main worry. We have two out and out strikers at the club - Craig McAllister, who's a target man but lacks confidence when it comes to finishing and Giuseppe Sole, an 18 year old who went to my school, in my brother's year! Great things are hoped of Sole but it's too soon to throw him in at the deep end, so Steve Ferguson, a striker that has been converted into a winger will have to shake off his inconsistent ways if we are to find the net this season. The midfielders will have to chip in too - attacking midfielder Ollie Berquez signed from arch rivals Stevenage has a big role to play.

The other striking option is Chris Sharpling. Ahh, Chris Sharpling, Woking's longest serving player, signed for 60 grand back when clubs actually had money. Such a talent before 2/3 horrific challenges have ruined his career. If fit very effective, but there lies the problem. Glenn wants to keep him but with such a limited budget at Woking it's very hard - he's on non-contract terms and won't get a contract till he proves his fitness but has picked up a back injury that will rule him out for 2 months. :(

Another injury is to Ian Selley. Undoubtedly our best player when fit, he suffered from a cruel double hernia last season and despite tryingto play on he was nowhere near his best. Then he tore his calf muscle in the FA Trophy Final warm up then in his bid toget fit for this season, snapped his achilles tendon on the exercise bike - not a lucky man. Out till the new year, though who knows when we will see him again. We've signed Shola Oyedele as cover for him, a fantastic player we had on loan last season. Sucha relaxed player, he has incredible vision and a great passer.

Yesterday it was announced we've signed Goma Lambu on non-contract terms. He came to us to get fitness as he knew our right back Simon Jackson - impressive friendly performances have given him a break. Like Shaun Wright Phillips, very small but incredibly fast and an extraordinarily low centre of gravity make him a real handful, as it looks like we'll be playing a 4-5-1 with two attacking wingers in him and Ferguson.

The season started on Saturday up at SOuthport with a 0-0 draw. Quite a negative result some might say but seeing as we've lost every first game for years and always lose in the north west, it's a good result, and the reports back were pleasing as to ourstyle of play this season.

First home game tonight. \o/

Crawley Town, a club in real crisis on -7 points and we're their "rivals" (they're not ours :p) and a chance to get 3 points under our belt.

COME ON YOU CARDS!

My God that was a long post
Bah humbug

10 mins in and we were down to 10 and they had a penalty. Still pushed them and after missing a penalty ourselves Craig McAllister levelled with a great header. Then thesecond half came adn we were just terrible, losing 2-1. :(
I have never been an admirer of Sunderland, but that has changed with the landing of Roy Keane. This guy could make a big impact... if he gets it right they are going to be up there at the end of the season. I expect Keane's passion to rub of on the squad.
I'll wait till Keane's confirmed before getting too excited.

COCKERILL OUT!

Another terrible display as I made my first away trip of the season, up to Grays Athletic. Torn apart, completely ineffective up front and a shambles defensively. Get that muppet in charge of our club out. The chants were there at the end for him and the board to hear - 2 points from 12 for God's sake, it's relegation form. Another loss against Kidderminster on Monday and things may turn ugly.

Didn't mention last week's game with Morecambe - fairytale ending as Jez Sole, our academy star scores a 90th minute winner, sparking truly wild celebrations. Then a truly horrific blunder from Gary Mac at the back gifts them an equalizer. :(
I think Keane-o going to Sunderland is a very bad move for the club as a whole.
I mean this is a guy who completely lost his head when Phil Neville passed the ball 10 yards down the line to Giggs instead of him 3 yards away which resulted in the ball going into touch and Keane-o losing his cool and giving Neville a right shouting at.

So in my opinion i think that he will be a failure because not only is he very inexperienced, what do you think he will do if Sunderland lose a game, i mean he got very very angry just for a misplaced pass so only God knows what he'll do if they lose a game.

However he may have changed as shown by him agreeing to work with Niall Quinn his 2002 world cup foe which i would never have seen happening 2-3 years ago.
I hope him the best of success but i doubt with his inexperience and temprement that it will be the case.
