I had the hammer in the 4th end, the score was 4-3 against me. With my last stone completed a knockout of my opponents only stone in the house. This left me with 5 scoring stones. My opponent jumped out of the match before the screen reset and the system posted that I won the end but only gave me credit for 1 stone! Why? Please offer a reasonable explanation... Thanks.

Operator, you are correct, I was penalized five points for the whole match. What I don't understand is why penalize the player who makes the winning shot but the shot does not complete because the poor loser opponent runs away!
You were not penalized, your opponent lost that end, you have won that end. The overall match result caused your rating to drop. The system is not perfect, since we cannot put an umpire to each match, who can decide what would be the correct score when someone leaves early. One thing is for sure: the one who quits looses the end (not necessarily the whole match). You can debate the resulting score of every such end, but the wisest thing is to accept the system as is, unless you can propose a better one, not for just one specific end, but an overall system which is valid and fair under all circumstances.
