There are alot of sources of information in this game.  The two best are the help button in the upper right hand corner, or you can search the forum.  

That being said, if you follow the directions to the "reward". i.e. reward is to the NW, reward is to the W, you can receive an item.  The item is usually a treasure or wonderflask, but on occasion you can get a high-level weapon, armour, or shield that you can sell in market.  

You can also use the balloon to regenerate hitpoints and manapoints, thus, greatly aiding your efforts to hunt monsters.
