this weekend i tried taking my c4 skillz to the street. My two friends and i were in the Chinatown section of philadelphia for dinner. After we ate, i thought, chinatown might be a good place to gamble, i might get good amount of customers. No such luck. My original offer: you bet $2, you win you get $100. So as a group of people would pass by i'd shout the offer to them. They didn't slow down a bit, and usually would just burst out laughing lol. Then I changed the offer to $1 for $100. Still no takers. No one wants to risk 1 lousy dollar to win 100 dollars! Not that they'd have won but still, most people think this game is an easy child's game so i didn't expect them to be THAT cautious. So my plan next time is to try during the day time, that way it will look less shady and people might trust me more. I'll try it right outside a slot parlor (it's the closest thing philly has to a casino), where people are already set out to gamble. And they won't be thinking this but, they'll have better odds against me than going for a jackpot on the slot machine. What did i say in that old topic? something like 1/50,000 chance of an amateur beating an expert? That's a lot better than 1/millions. So any logical person who likes to play slots (oxymoron right there) would take my bet. But my guess is, that day will be a failure as well. Maybe i'll get a few takers and make 10 bucks woopdeedoo. I hope i'm wrong. Another thing I thought of, maybe Chinatown wasn't the best place. There aren't many shops, it's mostly restaurants. So not many people are going there to stroll around, when they're walking they wanna get somewhere. Or at least it seemed that way from how fast people were walking. Originally i was planning to try it on South Street, which is a really popular place with all kinds of shops. People are there specifically to chill and pass time, so maybe they'd be up for some games. The downside with South St. is that there's a bunch of cops and what i'm doing isn't legal. So besides the slot parlor, i'm thinking to try a place like south st. but without all the cops. Or just risk it and go to south st. If neither of those places works, one other place comes to mind. I have a funny feeling gayys might be more curious to try their luck. So maybe i'll try the gayy section of philly. And while im there hit up some clubs of course *lol* So Day 1 i made 0 dollars on the street, but i did make some money from my friend on the ride to the restaurant. First we played 3 games, 1 dollar for 100, and i made 3 quick bucks. Then he didn't wanna play anymore until i said, let's play 10 games, if you win just 1 of those games i'll give you 50 bucks. If you lose all 10 you give me 5 dollars. Then i pulled out a 50 (no i don't normally have 50's but for this occasion it was perfect lol) and put it right next to him and said it can be all yours. Lol that's when he accepted. He got to choose which color he was each game. Also part of the deal, however many draws there were, we'd add that many games to the 10, so he'd have more chances to win. But there weren't any draws >:). Final score: me: 13 ; amateur: 0. Total profit: $8 There was 1 notable game in the series. I happened to practice against the exact moves right before i left so i was prepared, otherwise i might have made a mistake this game. Let it be a warning to any would-be gamblers to practice as blue against any mistakes Red can make. Cuz against amateurs there will be mistakes, and often mistakes are harder to play against than good moves. He was Red, i was Black, the game went: 43 ---- i decided 3 (or 5) is the safest anti to do 33 54* ---- many good players go 5 but only 4 wins 44 36* ---- tricky move, only 6 wins 16 --- not as hard but still challenging, only 6 wins 77 56 26 --- LOL that's why he's an amateur but until this point he played pretty darn strong, albeit by accident But my favorite game of the series: 44 (i'm red) 44 44 33 56 2 LMAO if he's playing for 50 bucks how could he be so careless?? Anyways, that's my hustlin experience so far, i'll keep yas updated in the future. Maybe what i learn from this can help chubbyP and whoever else might wanna make some [easy?] money on the street.

Interesting timing..havent logged in for a while but this post is up my alley. As you know, I tried this move a while back with similar results. I still think a good way is to just get a bunch of your friends out there to play and gather up attention. When people walk by, they are more likely to stop if there is a crowd. Best place is probably a public park where people play chess. On another note, you mentioned that this type of activity is illegal, though I am not sure about this. Given that Conenct 4 is a game entirely based on skill, I see no logical difference between a game on the street and an organized tournament. It is of course legal to have a Connect 4 tournament where everyone pays a fixed entry fee which contributes to the prize fund. This format applies to chess tournaments all the time. So whats the difference between that and playing on the street? When you invite someone to play, you are inviting them to participate in a 2 player tournament (you and them) where each player puts in one dollar to play, with the winner taking the full $2. Changing the pay structure as you did to give a higher payout to one party surely does not make the transaction illegal. Thoughts!?
Hm i don't think philadelphia has any park where people play chess, unfortunately. But the group of people thing is a really good idea i'll definitely have to try that. I don't know i just aszumed it's illegal. I didn't know the law distinguished between games of chance and games of skill. So you're saying you wouldn't need a gambling permit if you opened up a casino of nothing but boardgames and such? And chess tournaments, i'm not sure that's in the same category because that's run by an official national organization. Would it be legal for anyone to start their own tournament if the proceeds didn't go to charity? If what what i wanna do is legal then great, but i'll hafta find out. It might be different in different states. Of course, if it's illegal and a cop sees me, i can probably just say i didn't know and i won't get in trouble i'll just have to stop.
