I don't want to sound like I'm whining, but it seems to me that the thieving system is tremendously unfair to lower level players. Just walking around trying to play the game I get my pockets picked fairly often. It's never anything too valuable, so I don't care too much, but I'm annoyed because there is NO DEFENSE against it at all. I get robbed by characters that are 10 or more levels higher than me, so I can't fight them, or try to steal back from them. At those levels stealing my meager possessions can't net them anything valuable, so they must just be doing it to be jerks. I've got my character set on 'shy', which stops them from trying to kill me, but it doesn't stop them from stealing from me. As to houses, you can buy a trap, but a low level character can't seem to afford something that will effectively keep a thief out. And it's annoying that I have to spend 10,000 on traps to try to stop people from stealing my 3 measly rubies I'm saving to build a shield, and even that much didn't stop my rubies from getting taken. In most other games like this, there is some administrative control. Either you can't steal from people much lower level than you, or you can only do it in certain places or something. But in Larkinor it seems that the strong prey on the weak and there isn't a damned thing you can do to stop them. Am I missing something? I wouldn't mind thieves if there was some defense against them, but the way the game seems to be designed, you just have to suck it up and helplessly watch people walk away with your things.
