Basic rules
The game is played on a pre-defined board by two players, one of them using crosses (x) or black pieces, the other one naughts (o) (or white pieces).
The objective is to make a straight line (vertical, horizontal or diagonal) with 5 pieces of the own color
The player who uses the black (x) starts the game; both players will make one move by turn.
One move entails in placing one piece in an empty square of the board. The pieces inside the board cannot be moved again.

There are a couple of settings you can change in the game settings dialog box.
Opening rules
The following opening rules are available:
Free-style
The pieces can be placed on any field from the start of the game. Lines longer than 5 are also valid.
Pro
The black player starts with placing a piece in the center of the board. The second player can put the next piece anywhere on the board. The third piece (second of black) has to be put at least three fields from the center.
Long-Pro
The black player starts with placing a piece in the center of the board. The second player can put the next piece anywhere on the board. The third piece (second of black) has to be put at least four fields from the center.
Swap
The first player puts three pieces on the board, two blacks (x) and one white (o). The other player can then choose to accept the board and continue by placing a white piece (o), or can swap colors and let the starting player continue as white (o). In order to swap colors, press the below "S" button next to the player's name.
Swap2
The first player puts three pieces on the board, two blacks (x) and one white (o). The other player has three choices:
  • accept the board and continue
  • swap colors and let the other player continue with white (o).
  • place two more stones, and give the opportunity to swap to the opponent
